The finish + Price's awful goaltending...

Obviously. Though Esposito, Armstrong and Christensen has absolutely nothing in common with your Habs package. Either Atlanta would not have taken it 'cause 2 guys out of 3 are unproven compared to only 1 in the Pittsburgh trade OR Esposito being crap, or so thought by most people here, and Christensen being just a filler is not that great compared to our package who has the "potential" to be much much better....

And the thing is, Pittsburgh knew what they were doing. Chances are, Hossa won't be a rental after all.

We all agree that for a known rental, we would not have been happy to ship the kind of package you mentioned. But what about what was rumored at that time? Lapierre, Grabovski or O'Byrne in there?

Just that or even just Gaborik would make me very happy. But the price for him is 2 proven roster players and a high pick.

I really think that 1 timely goal set up or scored by Hossa every game would've been great for his confidence. We'll never know but I think he would've put us over the top.

You think Hossa could have stopped more pucks than Price and Halak? That was a much bigger problem.

I think our defence was a problem, but don't you dare tell that to the Josh Gorges lovers...

We scored the most goals in the entire league. Outscoring the opponent should have been our way out of this.

Did you hear him after the playoffs? He said himself he was mentally drained. Our chance at a cup last year went with Huet in his trade. Huet making 1 more save per game would buy the guys more time to score.

Scoring a lot in the regular season is not the same as doing it in the playoffs. We have too many perimeter players and not enough players wiling to play in traffic and pay the price to score.

Goal scoring gets harder in the playoffs...teams are more intense, the reffing becomes a lot looser and the ice gets worse. I have played enough hockey to know that in the playoffs goaltending is huge. Just look at Detroit after they put Osgood in...he an average NHL goalie but he didn't give any bad goals to cut their legs off like Price and Halak did in 3-4 different games.

Yeah it felt like Markov and Komi we're playing at 80% tops. Gorges was on par with what I've seen during the last stretch of the season imo, but that's not nearly enough to compensate for the two I mentionned.

Part of that is a lack of experience.

We have guys that'll score the dirty goals, but there has to be some adjustments. A guy like Kovy has to realise when teams are trying to take him away and get the puck to A.Kost, he's always been a guy that goes to the net. Koivu's line needs Latendresse on his line, those 2 are a perfect fit, you can keep either Higgins or S.Kost on the other side.

The thing is, wasn't about how Gorges was playing, whether he was good or bad in the playoffs. Markov and Hamrlik did not play the way they did in the regular season.

Be surprised if it is not Marleau. with a package build around Chipchura going the other way.

Markov was a target for Boston and he was banged up pretty good from mid 1st round to the end of the 2nd. I heard he had a leg injury, judging by his pivots and lack of acceleration it was a charleyhorse...I'd put him at 60% Komi was not 100% back from his hip injury, that also slowed him a bit. He was probably at 80-85%

Maybe they can light a fire under him or he fits better in the Habs up tempo style...but I was not a big fan of his game in SJ last year.

Chipchura is a SJ type player mostly due to his size, they think you win with size...minus the Anaheim attitude.

Marleau is overpaid... I hope we won't make a big offer for him.

The defense only gave up an average of about 25 shots a game vs Phillie. Half the goals that went in were very stoppable. Carter and Umburger both scored from the boards at the hash mark, Umberger scored another on a half wraparound.

The goalies gave up 18 goals in 5 games(plus 2 ENG). They got 131 shots(2 ENG). That's .862%. They didn't get a ton of high quality shots either...strange thing is Price stopped the breakaways but gave up the horrible back breaking goals.

Biron at the other end was 163/177 for .921. It was as much luck as skill.

funny how things can change in a short period of time. a year ago hab fans would be leaping for joy with the thought of getting marleau. think of it as getting him cheaper
