Yes, I meant that with Hedja covering for him and Campbell's offense, the two combined would be among the best combos in the league.

If Portzline's newest Puck-Rakers is indeed true and they can acquire Kubina without giving up their first round picks (how?). The Blue Jackets will probably definitely be throwing a huge offer to BC on 7/1. It would give them a formidable defense.

Campbell-Hejda
Klesla-Kubina
Rome-Methot
Russell/Tollefson

It doesn't appear that we are going to get Marleau (or any #1 center for that matter), so the next logical move to me is to improve the D. I love this Campbell kid and I would throw a load of money to bring him to Columbus.

I would accept going into next season with our current team plus Umberger, Campbell & Malone knowing that at the deadline we could add another piece or two if need be. I think those additions would have us in the playoff hunt when the trade deadline rolls around.

Here's my thoughts after today.

Go hard for Vermette or Kubina tomorrow. If we get Vermette, our summer should be all about Campbell and someone like Rozsival. If we get Kubina, I still target Campbell, but guys like Rozsival, Redden, are still options to fall back on.

Ultimately, I like Campbell. A lot.

Interesting day. With Umberger and Filatov now in the fold, there is no doubt that a top tier defense will be a key next piece of the puzzle.

I have a strong sense that either Redden or Campbell will be signed by the Jackets within the first two weeks of July.

I don't think that Malone will get a huge offer from the Jackets now that Umberger is on board.

Anybody get the number on that truck?

And Howson, sign Campbell. If for nothing else, I want somebody on this team that can KO a guy like that.

Tollefsen can.

Well he used to, anyway. Now that no one's allowed to "take chances" I doubt we'll ever see a hit like that again.

EDIT: Though, to be fair, I'm pretty sure he has been injured for a while now. And we know how great our medical/conditioning dept is

I'd much rather see the Jackets have the OSU Medical Staff look after the players, as they seem to do a great job with the OSU teams. But Ohio Health is a big sponsor of the team, so I think they are obligated to stick with their doctors.

Bob McKenzie says Campbell is allowed to talk to select Eastern Conference teams. Ugh. Just let him wait til July 1, what do they care?

All signs point to east coast team for him. Not favorable for us.

Think if we point out that we should be in the East they'll let us talk with him?

I think its more of an east coast than an eastern conference preference.

Yeah, I saw that. Something about personal reasons? I can respect that, though I'd love to have him here. But it'd have to be tough to be so far away from the family if something bad is happening.

Our chances were never good. Sure, we can back up the Brinks, but other teams that made the playoffs last year can do the same.

Yeah, pipe dream. As you mentioned, Roszival is a possible target. Kubina too.

Kallio just listed Stoll, Vermette, Lombardi, and Antropov as possible centers.

These are guys that we have a shot, and can compete for.

Too tough for Campbell in the Western Conference.

I'm not high on Campbell. The buzz on him in SJ is that he's not worth the money he's getting from them, so I doubt he'd be worth that or more here. I have to wonder if the hit on Umberger was what got him the SJ contract in the first place. In any case, I think Howson's a smarter shopper than that.
