Would the 13th, 26th and Max Afinogenov get you in the top 5?

Out of Curiosity what is this deal worth? Regier has said the Sabres are high on 3 players in this years draft. Ofcourse that's more than anyone has ever heard Darcy say about any draft in his tenure here in Buffalo. He also said if the situation presents itself they wouldn't be against trading up for a player that they coveted.

So are two 1st round draft picks in this years draft and a player like Afinogenov/Connolly/Kotalik enough get you in to the top 5? Is that a package that would garner consideration from someone in the top 5?

I always considered CBJ a team buffalo could make a trade with. i mean CBJ has 2 picks as well in this draft and could use a guy i think like max on there team. its a 7 spot drop but you still get a great quality player at 13th. its not the top 5 picks but the 6th pick would land you a great player and maybe a 1st year impact player.

I love it when you guys offer spare parts + Late draft pick, for top 5 pick.

Kinda like when Oilers fan offer up Torres plus draft pick for top 10 pick. Unreal.

The 13th and 26th, plus Kalinin and T.J. Brennan, would get my attention if I were the Blues' GM holding the number four pick...

No interest whatsoever in Afinogenov.

That package is more than enough to get into the top 5.

yes. People overrate picks way too much here. (connolly though, not max)

Not a chance. People seem to forget that this draft has 4 potential franchise defensemen and highly underrate the top 5.

Do you know what it cost the flyers to move into the top 4 in 2002 to grab a potential franchise player?

Ruslan ****ing Fedotenko and 2 2nd round draft picks.

The overvaluing of draft picks on here is unreal.

If we could somehow get into the top 5 and get Doughty/Bogosian/Pietrangelo, I would be pretty excited. We need a franchise defenceman, and these guys would fill that bill. Those picks and Afinogenov, who is underrated immensely by all fans including those of the Sabres, should be enough to get up into the top 5. I hope to see the Sabres make some moves during this draft.

Ever hear of the lockout and salary cap? Guess not. I mean, its not like theres a ceiling for how much you can spend on players per team.

Draft smaft!

LOL, 2002 draft.

Not quite funny as '99, but you tried.

That's pretty different, wouldn't you say? Two straight seasons on a point-per-game pace, followed up by one that was, admittedly, disappointing [mainly due to injuries] makes Max "Spare Parts"?

Since when is 13th overall a "late" draft pick? PLUS the original poster included the 26th overall.

I bet something like this will happen. Seems like an idea the FO in Buffalo is plotting right now.

Kalinin is a ufa, he has been told that he is not in sabres plans for next year. Will test waters in free agency

I think it was funnier the 98th time you posted that....

Hey BikeGiftingMan, Don't let AgentNaslund get you. He doesnt actually read the posts, or know anything about the players involved. He just likes to go into every single trade proposal and post "Oilers fan offer up Torres plus draft pick for top 10 pick". Yet he thinks the Canucks have assets...
Max would be on the Canucks top line

Fedotenko in '02 > Afinogenov in '08

The only way that maybe gets done is with Connolly, but even then, with his injuries, that's almost as much (or more) of a gamble as a draft pick...

Kalinin is a free agent, unless you plan on signing him.

Not overvaluing Max, but that is silly. Fedotenko has a career high of 41 points. Before an injury plagued year last year, he had two seasons where he was a point a game guy, including a 73 point season and 61 points in 56 games.

For some reason, trading into the upper draft is just too expensive. (Think Hershel Walker). I personally would rather keep the two firsts, to avoid overpayment and just for odds sake of two quality players and the chance to make the Bigs. Darcy Regier said that 40-60 players make it to the pros from each draft.

Fair enough... but Fedotenko had potential, young age and no cap hit to worry about in 2002...

In hindsight, I'd obviously rather have Max, but it's not a stretch to say Fedotenko was more valuable then than Afinogenov is now.

I fail to see how a 13th and 26th are considered late round picks, and how Afinogenov is merely a spare part...

Columbus would probably want Connolly over Afinogenov.
