The Panthers do not currently hold a first-round pick in the 2008 draft.

He forgot Allen, who is very steady on Defense. Also, Murphy isn't a UFA, although he is a bottom pairing dman if that.

Other than that though I do agree on the analysis. Offense, defense, and goaltending all can be addressed, so the BPA strategy seems appropriate to me.

Let me just say I didn't feel a need to address Allen and Murphy. They are exactly what they appear to be - no surprises. I was really only trying to point out the discrepancy between Bouwmeester and the majority of the defense after him.

Oh right, sorry, I misread slightly. I've been reading things all day, had an exam too, etc...

Good article though, appreciate the read. Unfortunately the lack of d prospects is a bit concerning. The good thing is we do have Bouw, Allen, VanRyn, Welch, Skrastins, Murphy, and the two UFA's in Cullimore and Johansson who shouldn't be hard to resign if we want to. Also, if Martin targets a decent name in Free Agency or Ellerby somehow plays his way onto the roster, we have some depth I suppose. Welch is a big question mark, as is VanRyn, but hopefully they both have their issues sorted out, as I like both of them when they're healthy. I really think we need to be looked at skilled potential top six forwards with all our picks for offense from now on. They can be physical too, but we have a lot of future 3rd liners and 4th liners, but not that many future top 6 players. Matthias, Repik, and Frolik come to mind as potential top 6 forwards but you never know. Weiss, Horton, Booth and Olesz have top 6 potential or ability as well, some are further along than others, but we need to get more fast skaters who have abilities that can translate to the new wide open NHL style.

For those who are worried about Welch, i think he'll be a pleasant surprise. If he can not be injured for the season, that is...

I predict that we will acquire 3 new players today. 2 through a trade and 1 through a 1st round pick acquired through a trade.

I think we'll acquire more, whether it be picks or what not. I think we'll trade some of our extra spart parts for picks, since we have like no picks at all.

I just really hope to see Stumpel and Mezei gone today.
