We didn't trade anything to get rights...we were granted permission to speak to his agent.

Conversation would go something like this :

BG : Hello, would you consider signing for the Montreal Canadiens before July 1 if we gave you 'nnn' amount of $?

Sundin's Agent : Answers yes or no

If the answer is no, no harm done. If the answer is yes, then we would have to trade for the 'rights'.

Win win if you ask me.

From CKAC, Gainey talked to Sundin yesterday but Mats said that he didn't take any decisions as far as who he wants to play with....

Doesn't seem a 1st for Sundin to me....
