Prediction: Kovalchuk Will Demand By Next Trade Deadline

I thought the Thrashers would definitely take Filatov to compliment Kovalchuk. Not that Bogosian is a bad pick, but this guy realistically is probably a few years away from making any kind of impact (as most d-men).

I think Kovalchuk is gone before then. He's not likely to stick around with that dearth of talent. I don't think he's going to waste another 2-3 years waiting for Atlanta to restock talent around him.

Not saying he'll be coming here though as Lowe doesn't seem to get deals done anymore.

Soundwave, u know exactly how I feel about this. If Atlanta doesn't make the playoffs, he'll demand a trade, and they wont risk losing him.

They need to add half a dozen players before they can think about the playoffs. They won't make it and he will want out. They could build their team for a decade if they traded him now.

Pitkanen
Penner
Cogliano
A great D prospect
And picks

I would do that for sure.

I don't think so. So Edmonton can wallow in misery and have Kovalchuk Atlanta style?

As would I, but I was lambasted by the average fan here for proposing something like that. It was something like Penner, Pitkanen, Stoll, Torres, 2 1st (1 conditional on resigning) and Nash.

Kovalchuk will demand (read: not request, demand) by Christmas time I think.

The Thrashers aren't going to get anyone in UFA land that can right that ship, Hossa is the best UFA available and he's not coming back.

And the return on him is not going to be anywhere close to Pitkanen, Penner, Cogliano + picks, I'm calling it right now.

Again not saying he'll end up here, but he'll be in a different uni by this time next year. Maybe L.A.

No, so edmonton can ice this line up:

Kovalchuk - Horcoff - Hemsky
Cogliano - Gagner - Nilsson
Bottom 6

Souray - Gilbert
Grebeshkov - Staios
Greene - Smid

You already traded Cogliano, and which one of that lineup is the great d prospect as well?

It's not very reassuring to have Souray, Gilbert, and Staios logging the tough minutes vs star players...

That team doesn't make the playoffs.. regardless of what our top 12 would look like.
