Answer this question....would you rather have Umberger on our NHL squad scoring 60 points next season......or the guy we would have picked at #19, scoring goals for Moose Booty and having to check hockeydb.com to see how they were performing?
I thought it looked pretty clear the chances of us getting a first line center out of this draft were pretty dim.
It also seems pretty clear that we're going to overpay for any kind of upgrades in the current market conditions, so giving up a "maybe" at 19th for a fairly solid Buckeye Boy isn't the end of the world.
Ya, one day I read how we have to over pay to get guys to play here then the next day I read we over payed. Man, from the biggest whiner that ever lived, stop whining people.
I've been wrong many a time in my life but I've been right more often, RJ will help this team move forward. Lets face it, how many guys do we have on our team who have had their head nearly knocked off their shoulder (on national TV) and come back to be a scoring factor in the playoffs?
RJ is not Rick Nash but RJ can teach Rick Nash a thing or two about heart...I love the trade and I love RJ!!!!!!!
Many of us are long passed that stage...we're ready to compete now. I think it should have been 19th for RJ, straight up...we lost out giving a 3rd for a 4th
We are competing. We have a great crop of young players that need ice time. There is no way these guys games can mature without real ice time. And I'm not talking Syracuse, I'm talking NHL ice time. Guys like Malkin, Staal and others are good because they get time.
Yes it has to be earned, but getting a brief stint here and there is no way to earn it. Look at other teams high draft picks, they get substantial time and it pays off.
