I am a big fan of incentive laden contracts.
We bring you here to do (A)
If you do (A) you get ($$)
If you do (B) you get ($)
If you do squat, you get squat.
He isn't 35 or older so I don't think we can give him an incentive laden contract.

All of this is BS rationalization after the fact to feel good about an organization which apparently isn't digging all that hard to get what we need. When we have 25 "character" or "glue" guys and only 2 that can score and one that can set them up, I hope Hitch and Howson are still pleased with themselves.

Yeah, that or he would have to be coming back from a major injury, like with Peca this past year.

Put it into perspective. There are 27 other teams that didn't get Cammalleri either.

We had a fantastic first draft day. I don't see a need to gripe.

I didn't say the verdict was in, but the fact is, Howson is playing from behind. I said before, he really needed to get 2 NHL-ready guys this weekend to fill our holes. We got 1. He still needs to trade for a center--UFA isn't going to solve that issue.

Yeah we're not going to get a #1 center before the season. Looks like another year of crossed fingers.

But, if it doesn't work out, lines could look like this come 2009-10:

Nash-Tavares-Malone
Zherdev-Brassard-Voracek
Chimera-Umberger-Brule
Legien-Murray-Boll

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's not drinking the RJ Kool-Aid.
I mean are they serious with him? Seriously.

Nash-Umberger-Modin
Chimera-Brassard-Zherdev

Hello 14th in the West.

Hello 14th in the West.
Don't get me wrong. I like RJ. But look at that second line. Brutal. Gotta pray Brassard is ready. And that Voracek replaces Chimmer.

We've gotta push for Malone. I think Nash-RJ-Malone could be good, maybe even great, and if it isn't, it gives you something to work with on the second line.

Its not going to be easy to find a center. We knew that from the beginning.

Hello 14th in the West.
RJ had five fewer assists than Brad Richards last year. Five. Seriously.

I don't think anyone views RJ as a savior, but he is better than any options we have in house and now there is one less hole the organization needs filled prior to the start of next season.

He isn't the solution, but he's part of it.

It was easy for Phoenix, I just wish Hitch didn't hate Olli so much.

Right, but it totally kills me that THREE centers with skill were acquired by other teams paying LESS than we did to get Umberger.

It's mind boggling, I guess Howson isn't the greatest at determining player values. Olli for peanuts, RJ for a 1st.

No argument here. Its not all Howson's fault. Yes, I understand that we don't have a lot of pieces to move. But when I hear that we apparently didn't even talk to Florida, that's just criminal given the lack of centers available.

Martin turned down a pretty good player in PM Bouchard from Minnesota as part of a package for Jokinen. Who knows what the hell would've tempted him from Columbus?

Look guys, Cammy and Jokinen didn't end up here, for whatever reasons, Lets try and move forward... Its not like we still don't have a chance to land someone, Our first two picks in this Draft are perhaps the greatest two picks we've made one and two since Zherdev and Fritsche, we got a guy in Umberger that may end up as a solid top sixer for us and we didn't have to sacrifice any prospects to do it, although that might come later...

Jokinen wasn't coming here, Hitch wouldn't have had it, Cammy, I'm a little shocked about as well, but whats done is done.

Agree with you there. Gotta have a conversation at least, I would think.

Who knows what the Hitch-Howson-Jokinen mystery is?

I guess if Jacques Martin was determined to get defense, we couldn't offer a whole lot. I'll be alot happier when I hear Howson say he's not done yet, straight from the horse's mouth. Last ditch effort for Marleau would work, if they sign Campbell, we have to hope they pay Campbell alot.

You don't honestly think Howson's done do you?

He's talked repeatedly about the holes that need filled and the money that can be spent. I see one hole filled and plenty of money to spend still.

I don't think he is, but I'm just weary of the UFA pool. No #1 centers out there, but Redden/Roszival will help tremendously.

Gonna have to be creative with that other center spot. That's for sure.

Agreed. And I don't know how many people still have a chubby over Hitchcock (...no pun intended), but if he has his head so far up his ass that he doesn't care about the fact that his team cannot score goals, I hope he wakes up pretty soon.
