What if we were to get Ryan Malone in free agency. Would the top two lines look like this:

Malone/Umberger/Nash
Z/Brassard/Voracek

Yeah I know two young kids on the second line but it is still a lot better than last years top two.

Modin would be in there if healthy.

True but I'm not counting on that. I'm also not a huge Modin fan.

We have got to start thinking about making an offer sheet. It may be our best option.

Bouchard, Vermette or Filppula are 3 guys I'd take a good long look at if they haven't been traded or signed by June 26th. Next weekend could be interesting.

I'm not too optimistic about that. I really think yesterday was our chance.

I don't think offer sheets are a good idea, with our roster now we could be giving up Tavares or Hedman if we offer sheet someone.

If Howson believes one of those guys is a number one center and can get us to the playoffs now and in years to come, why wait for next year to draft Tavares?

What if we offer sheet Vermette and still don't make the playoffs? Ottawa is gettin a top 10 pick, and we don't have a pick in the first 3 rounds.

Phoenix just got better, St. Louis is getting Chris Mason and Patrick Berglund this season, Hawks get better. And what are the Jackets doing?
LA is better too. What Western teams are the Jackets better than?

And what if we're the 5th or 6th worst team in the league (again) and don't get Tavares or Hedman for our troubles?

The 09 draft is like the 03 draft, franchise guys in the top 10, 1st liners in the top 20. Epic draft.

I dunno, I don't really care about drafting high anymore. It obviously hasn't worked for us so far. I say just try to build the best team they can, and then raid Detroit's scouting department. They've shown that you can find talent further down in the draft, whereas we've had trouble even getting our 1st rounders to be more than adequate.

Great, then we can draft lower and still get quality. This team (for it's own sake, the player's sake ... not even the fan's sake) needs to win. There are no other options. NONE.

I was just saying that I didn't like offer sheets, I didn't insult anyone, swear, and name call anyone. It's just a huge gamble. I'd rather trade for Marleau and skip Vermette altogether.

Nash-Marleau-Modin
????-Umberger-Zherdev
Chimera-Brassard-Voracek
Murray-Malhotra-Boll
not sure about Novotny, Brule/Fritsche involved for Marleau.

Redden - Roszival, our 2 big UFA signings
Hejda - Klesla
Russell?OKT? Methot

Leclaire.

I just get the feeling that if we were going to have Marleau, he'd be on the team by now.

I agree completely. Offer sheet away.

Screw next year's draft. We're up to our eyeballs in prospects. If we're in the Tavares-Hedman race next year, then f this f-ing team.

Plus if you give up the picks now, you have a year to try to get other picks back if its really that big of a deal.
Meanwhile, we need offensive help now.

If we're in the race to pick for Tavares next year, there won't be much of a fan base here to make it matter. Significant improvement this season is (dare I say) CRITICAL. After yesterday's developments, we've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.

I swear I've heard this same statement before with other players' names.

Yes, and if you though attendance was bad last year, wait until you see what October looks like THIS year. The statements get made every year and the fan base continues to erode every year.

I remember Pittsburgh's fan base declining after the Jagr trade. And the next thing you know they had Sid the Kid and all was right with the world.

Teams will always lose casual fans when times are bad and suckers like you and me will always stick around.
