Well, I'm back in Cincy. It was a disappointing game nonetheless, but Columbus fans were easy to deal with. Most didn't seem to care either way about the game. After the first period, the place didn't make any noise until the final goal/end of the game. It was a weak atmosphere though the arena and the CBJ staff puts on a great show. The game wasn't much to watch but I was hoping for more. Oh well, nothing else went well for me that game so it went along with the crowd.
Tootoo looked great and Ling seemed to cut an artery. All 4 goals were, in my opinion, very stoppable. The first was a joke. On the second, Vokoun pulled a Chechmanek and was way, way out of the net. You cannot challenge a shot like that with people that close to the goal. On the 3rd, he had to be ready for Timonen. Yes, it's Timo's fault for backhanding it on net, but Vokoun has to realize it's not been a lucky night for him and watch that puck at all times. It's like they saw with skaters, you have to be in control of the stick at all times. Well, goaltenders have to be aware of the puck and ready for it at all times. Vokoun wasn't. The fourth, he was out of position on the first Ling shot and was scrambling thereafter. If Trotz had started Mason like he should have done, this is likely a Preds victory because we outplayed the BJ's thoroughly.
It was one of those games. If we shot it from the blueline, it would deflect of off some legs/skates and skirt out of the zone. If Columbus shot it, it would bounce to a wide open skater who had a wideopen net to shoot into.
How does one team just absolutely fall apart? Our “all-stars” looked brilliant tonight. Vokoun was out of position on 3 goals. He should have been pulled after that first goal, he obviously didn’t have it at all, actually I agree that he shouldn‘t have even started. Then for the next he was almost out of his crease and grasping towards the puck while it was being shot and deflected the other way. The third was all Timonen. Why didn’t he pass it up the boards -to an open man- instead of trying to go across the goal when he had someone right on his back? Then the 4th Vokoun should have been against the post when the puck went behind the line but he was 2+ feet away from the post and anyone that could aim right had an easy bank shot into the net. Why is it that when we give up the first goal we fall apart. We just stopped doing what we had been doing before and let Columbus do whatever they wanted. We stopped playing physical and tried too hard to score on some fancy play. Against Washington we were physical all night and forced them to play our way and we won. Against Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Tampa we didn’t and let them dictate how the game would go and we lost those games. Why do we just seem to give up?! *heavy sigh, rolls eyes, shakes head*
I almost threw up twice, once for all the blood and then just for the way we played. Normally I could handle a little blood, but that was just gross, especially cause it was spraying all over the ice and Stevenson’s helmet and jersey. Yuck. Nice by Tootoo. Nice by McKenzie. I have liked Shelley ever since he was in Johnstown but I just thought he was starting to take a few runs at some of our players and I didn’t like that from him.
Hey Legwand scored! Tootoo got a point!
I’m off to pick what bandwagon to jump on when the playoffs start, doesn’t look like this one is going anywhere.

Give me a break, what was there to cheer about after the first period? The game was over. The Jackets had a whole 4 shots on goal in the third period. Maybe Nashville fans stand and cheer when absolutely nothing is going on on the ice? The atmosphere in that first period was second to none.
Since you made this same claim after your last visit to Nationwide, I'll toss your comments in the "disappointed because my team got stomped" pile and move on.

If you did that, you'd be foolish. I made these same comments after we beat you guys up there. The place was dead in the second and third and I mean DEAD. If you have a 3 goal lead, you'd think you could atleast muster some sort of excitement.
Oh and if Nashville got stomped last night, I'd hate to think what word you'd use if your team actually outplayed the other.

when you're playing the jackets, the game is never "over." until the final whistle.
i'm not sure how a team "stomps" another...when at LEAST two of its goals are given to them by the opposing team.

Nationwide was about as excitied on a Monday in February when the team is out of it as GEC is on a Saturday night with a team in it.
Face it, we will always have better fans and soon a better team.

really? outside klesla, what defensive prospects do you have?
and save yourself some embarassment and avoid saying 'kent macdonell' or 'aaron johnson.'
defense wins championships.
suter, hamhuis, stehlik, klein.
and THEN...factor in no-slouch scorers...
shishkanov, segal, glazachev, setzinger, gamache.
Hey, wait a second...wasn't this supposed to be the year the Jackets fiiiinaally surpassed the Preds, after picking up "superstars" Todd Marchant, Trevor Letowski and Darryl Sydor?

That's actually not true. Having been to my fair share of hockey games, Nationwide was about as exciting as the GEC on a monday night. The bottom line was this: CBJ was up 3 goals and the place was dead. So what if they were being outplayed by the Preds. The crowd should still be excited.
The arena is wonderful and the staff is magnificent (the Preds/GEC should take lessons on both accounts) but the fans were lacking on Monday. What they really need more than anything is something like a section 303. They are there and they want to cheer. I just think they need someone to lead them.
A better team you ask? Well, technically you were supposed to be better than us for the past 3 years. I mean, you go and get the bigger named players right? Unfortunately for Jackets fan, having talent and winning games don't go hand in hand. You were a preseason favorite to make a playoff run. Now you are a midseason favorite to make an Ovechkin run. Don't talk to me about success until you've seen even a half season of it yourself.

I feel your Pain 303. We have got to get out of this funk we are in and fast. Vokoun has GOT to stop letting in 4GA. Who starts on WED Vokoun or Mace?

why do cbj fans always have to start attendance wars when it's irrelevant to the issue at hand?
nmk is right, too, our future defensively is one of the brightest in the league.
Didn't start an attendance war (yet..see final paragraph), just stating an opinion that Nationwide was about as excited as the times I've been to GEC. I've only gone to GEC on Saturday nights. And at this point, you have more to cheer about that I do.
I was there last night and found the crowd rather dead also. A couple of reasons: 1. The CBJ were up by three at the end of the first.
2. I think the crowd hit the wall on the non-hattrick.
3. The CBJ were not playing very well in the second and third period. Gave us very little to cheer about.
PS..why is it that I bought tickets in a buy one get one free promotion for the the 3/27 at GEC and those promotions don't exsist in Columbus? With a team that is close to making the playoffs shouldn't it's incredible fan base have sold out a late March game by now without having to cut ticket profits by 50%?

1: Wouldn't that give the fans more reason to cheer?
2: That might be true, but only the lower educated fans thought it was a hattrick. Sitting up in 217, it was clearly not a hattrick. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here.
3: Agreed, but you still had a 2 or 3 goal lead the whole time. That in and of itself is something to cheer about.

Flame away
Because we pissed away all our fan support that we had garned. When you play poorly, fans stop showing up. Columbus is facing that harsh realization as well. Now Columbus has quite a few more hockey fans than Nashville simply because of it's location. But Nashville is growing rapidly and I will say this, our crowd is just as knowledgable of hockey if not moreso. Which really impressed me. In 20 years, when both teams are at their peaks, there will be no difference in fanbase.

I watch approx. 50 NHL games each week and have yet to see a regular season game in which the home team was up by 3 goals for the majority of the game and the place was a constant madhouse.
Seriously, I'm trying to get a visual here....what would have been appropriate? Standing up and screaming "wooooooohoooooooo" and clapping wildly after the third icing call in a row?

No one here can stand to sit through 60 minutes of the bluejackets???
So what? you have better attendance. We have a better team. So in essence we wish we had better attendance and you wish you had a better team. It's a never-ending circle.

I don't ask for a madhouse. I ask for any excitement at all. Midway through the second, you would think someone...anyone would start some sort of cheer. Nothing...
Columbus is facing that harsh realization as well.
Says who?
Be honest for a second, wouldn't you love to see a crowd (on any given night) at the GEC like the one you saw last night at Nationwide for a Monday night game?
The Jackets aren't selling out every game, but to say they're facing a "harsh realization" about fans not coming to the games is flat-out ignorant. They average over 17,000 and are in the top half of the league in attendance.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion.
Nationwide will continue to be voted #1 in arena experience despite your griping...

We had that the first few seasons, just didn't last long for whatever reason and yes, I'd love to see it back and believe it will, but it will always be fair weathered here, if they put a bad product on the ice the stands will be empty.

See, why did you have to say this? I've been going to NHL games for 30 years. I was sitting, in 222, I thought Manny got the trick. I threw my hat before the goal was announced. Once the goal was announced, I realized he never touched the puck. I am not a lower educated fan and I tossed my hat.
