They can keep dreaming... Higgins, a 1,7mil, salary dump, yeah right

I wouldn't be suprised if it's player, but it's probably going to be prospects like D'Agostini or Subban... certainly not Higgins or any important roster player...

I don't see why we'd have to compensate after July 1st?

He is still a Maple Leaf officially, but we have permission to speak with him exclusively until July 1. If we sign him to a contract, they delay on telling the NHL, we make the trade for his rights and then report the signing. The trade has to be completed before the signing no? But after noon on July 1 everybody is on the same level.

lol yeah, it won't be Higgins.

MacKenzie said it was probably a 2nd pick in the 2009 draft and he's A LOT more credible then Kevin McGran and Mike Zeisberger. They both give completely different compensation to Toronto based on the fact that they are both guessing.

Gainey even said he was not going to touch the core and he doesn't need to dump Higgins salary to sign Sundin. Higgins to Toronto to talk to Sundin for 10 days is waaay too much compensation. Look what Philadelphia gave to the Preds to talk to Timmonen and Upshall, basically nothing.

That would be an incredible lineup. The balance on those three lines is disgusting. Who are you going to put your shut down d pairing against? One of those lines will be playing many minutes versus the bottom pairing d men and will surely give them fits. It will make the oppositions job very difficult.

I cannot wait to see this lineup in action.

I can't see that as a possibility...no chance at all! Maybe a package (pick and prospect), but not a core player.

I would put a Higgins-Pleckanec-SK74 line, it might be a solid 2-way line with good scoring as well.

Anyway, if i was Carbo i would be really happy with the trades, a 3rd line who can be a 2nd line on many teams will be really interesting.

let me ask you this guys.

If Sundin had 2 years left on his contract would you be willing to part with Higgins?

Of course, ANY combination of our top 8 forwards plus Latendresse could look decent, but I think we can do even better than the above.

I don't think the Higgins-Koivu-Latendresse line will work too well.

I also don't like SKost and Tanguay on the same line, they are both playmaking wingers.

2nd and Grabovski. Thats the most I would give up given the situation.

Another potential lineup I'd like to see would be:

Lats-Sundin-Kovy (3 heavyweights with two guys that have glue on their stick, Lats would just have to stand in front of the net and get the garbage goals... could be devasting)

Tanguay-Koivu-A. Kost (2 playmakers with great vision and the finisher with the lethal shot... scary)

Higgins-Pleks-S. Kost (could be the "checking" line, great speed, great defensive awareness, 2 shooters and one great setup man... so shifty they would give headaches to the opposing players, espacially their better ones...)

Interesting......

If you remove Pleks from Kovy, then you probably want Sundin playing with Kovy. I would then put Tanguay, the playmaker, with them. And that gives us a chance to move AK46 to his natural wing and prepare him to succeed Kovalev and Sundin as our topoffensive star in a year or two.

Tanguay-Sundin-Kovalev
Latendresse-Koivu-AK46
Higgins-Plekanec-SK74

Everyone keeps saying that Tanguay is a playmaker...

From the footage I've seen (Flames tv), he is pretty much a finisher too.

NO!

The value of giving something up for the window with Sundin is simply that we have time to form a Plan B instead of scrambling on July 1st-2nd.

However, there is REALLY no need to give up a lot to a team to get an impending UFA who can leave for nothing in a few days, and there is not much residual VALUE to pay the former team because in a UFA context, you already pay the player full market value.

The most I would give up would be a prospect who has already failed to move to the top of our list (Graboski or Locke, for instance), or a flip of draft picks to Toronto's advantage.

It's rumored that Mikhail Grabovski will be the player on his way back to the Leafs should Gainey and Sundin come to terms on a contract.

No way Higgins is a part of this deal, it also states that the leafs will get the 09 first rounder. I would be more willing to trade that away, problem is the draft next year is in Montreal, I just don't see the habs trading that pick away. It's a big year not having a first rounder would be a big deal. It won't happen, most likely Mackenzie is the the closest to the right deal.

Leafs need d-men so my take would be: Emelin or O'Byrne.

Up front, maybe Grabovski, Ryan White, Weber, D'Agostini.

I just don't want the Habs to give their 1st since the draft will be held in Montreal. Gainey keeps mentioning how many prospects we have that could be expendable, well time to show it.....
