Briere Update -- could return Friday

What are the cap implications if Briere's surgery shows he can't play again this year? This would give the Flyers all the room they need to make any trade right....

Thanks

Nothing. If it's something that makes him "lost" for the season, they would have found it by now. It will be a lingering injury.

Therefore, they can't make any big moves because it will linger like Forsbergs injury.

In 3 games, out three weeks, in 2 games, out two weeks, in 3 games, out 4 days etc...

Maybe he can waive his NMC (like Roenick) and we can use him like Forsberg and totally violate some teams self-respect. Because let's face it, Holmgren was like a freak on prom night, he slipped his date (the Predators) a roofie (Forsberg) and had his way with them.

Its simple. Leave him out, let him rest.....about 3 weeks before the end of the season he should start working out and if he cant go in the playoffs he waits until next season.

As I said when he first got hurt, abdominal/groin injurie linger and linger. You have to basically do NOTHING for a long time, get fat and happy, and then slowly start working out and getting back into shape.

I got a nasty groin injury grappling one time......I didnt feel 100% better for like 4-5 months.....Now he is a professional athlete and I am not so he should be in much better shape than me, but he is also putting himself at more risk...

Normally I'd be all over this for two reasons. 1) because it's you 2)Becasue of what you wrote.

However, I'm not acknowledging you until you put your old picture back up.

Yet again the Flyers spend a ****l;oad of money for a guy to sit on his ass and be hurt all year. Sorry its frustrating. Lindros, Forsberg, Briere, its goes on and on.

Updated: Jan. 22, 2009 1:14 PM EST

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that center Danny Briere underwent a successful surgical procedure on his groin/stomach area, according to General Manager Paul Holmgren.

"Danny had successful surgery this morning to repair a nerve entrapment," said Holmgren in making the announcement. "His recovery? time will be a minimum of four weeks."

The procedure was performed today by Dr. William Meyers at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.

That's about right near the trade deadline.

pronger rumor

Yes I did start this one as well. Just asking about cap implications and trade deadline.

Are there any trades we can talk about?

I think the Flyers need something...One or two more pieces to the puzzle. Right now I don't think they can beat the Caps or Bruins come playoff time. With another stud D-Man or dynamic scoring winger might level the field. Also the Atlantic is nasty now that the Devils are rolling.

Is there anything "REAL" they can or will do, or are we just waiting and developing.

Thanks

its still frustrating. why cant it be a player who isnt being paid in Brinks trucks every week. Whys it always gotta be the high priced superstar player who is ALWAYS hurt for this ****ing team. Its frustrating and it sucks. It cant be a guy like Cote, Upshall,(no offense to those guys, Im well aware Upshall is a terrific player and I love having him out there) etc with season long injuries. No. Gotta be Briere. Thats always the case with this team. Sub Briere, and insert Forsberg, Gagne, Lindros. We cant go a year without losing a key player for the most of the season. thank god Richards and Carter blossomed, or Id be extremly pissed about it. Cant help the injuries, I know, but it still blows donkey ****.

Yeah. It's not like people on the message board didn't see that coming. Sadly, the ones who count did not. The whole situation was handled very irresponsibly.

I doubt that we see him PUP'd, more likely that happens with Hatcher and we can make a move then.

It's just wait and see, hopefully he comes back strong for the playoffs, been solid up front in his absence anyway. For the future, well I have been nervous about that since the moment he signed. Eight years was way too long. Timonen I've eased up about and given that his deal was six I was never nearly as nervous but banking on a small guy with some miles on him to stay productive into his late 30s is a big gamble.

If briere was out for the season he would be placed on the long time IR and his salary would not count against the cap.If the flyers could move him, they should. They're stacked up front.

Again they can't. No movement clause. Generally speaking, once you get a long term contract with a NMC you dont waive it, especially in the 2nd year.

Also, Briere will have missed well over half the games this year. That means half of his salary is off the cap for this year. I savings of at least 3.25 million.

I should also note that i thought this thread was about Briere watching the new season of Lost when i glanced over real quick.
