Sooooooo many reasons.
Sundin may only play for 1-2 years. Hossa wants to play for 7-8 years.

If you don't sign Hossa, chances are good that he goes to Pittsburgh, your main rival in the EC. Sundin is not going to Pittsburgh under any circumstances.

If the choice is between (1) Hossa in Pittsburgh for 8 years and Sundin in Montreal for 2 years, or simply (2) Hossa in Montreal for 8 years, what do you choose?

I agree. Let's keep that cap space for Lecavalier and/or Crosby.....they better than Hossa/Sundin.

If Hossa epic fails, we are killed.
If Sundin epic fails, meh.

hmmm though choice...

so, err, Hosdin???

Both have pros and cons. However I'm not sure if we could afford Hossa on a long term with all the players we have on the team atm we want to keep. Bah, I probably don't know much anyways.

Agreed

But signing Sundin for one season wouldn't stop us from doing that....

other things would

We play Pittsburgh 4 times a year, I'm sure we can survive them having Hossa. Besides, already having Crosby and Malkin, it's not like Hossa makes them any more unbeatable...
Like someone else said, if you sign Hossa and he epic fails, you're screwed. If you sign Sundin and he epic fails, it was only for 1 year so meh, no Yashin style situation.

Sundin would be more useful than Hossa.. Hossa is younger though.. not an easy choice but I'd prefer Sundin than Hossa

What if gainey hits a home run and signs both players if hossa thus not sign back with pitsburg. Im to lazy to do the math but do we have enough cap space to sign both? That would insane.

In reality if you are looking at the present Sundin fits the bill. Veteran guy. Wants to win now as he has very little time left. He is also a cheaper option as hossa is probably asking for much more money. I have to say I would want sundin. Sundin would also make us a legit team at the center position. We are all ready stack on the wings.

Sundin for one year.

If he comes to Montreal, it's to have a last shot at the cup. So.. we sign him one year, then win the cup, and then the youth movement continues.

Sounds good to me.
