Best Forward: Pavel Datsyuk
Best Defenseman: Nicklas Lidstrom
Best Defensive Forward: Pavel Datsyuk
Rookie of the Year: Jimmy Howard
Best Goaltender: Jimmy Howard
Biggest Disappointment: Ville Leino, Chris Osgood, Dan Cleary
Biggest Surprise: Drew Miller, Jimmy Howard
Best Free Agent Signing: Todd Bertuzzi
Worst Free Agent Signing: Jason Williams
Best Transaction: Drew Miller off waivers
Most Improved Player: Valtteri Filppula
Ideal Addition: A top 6 winger for Datsyuk's line (Hudler would be nice, but is he good enough? Williams was supposed to be the ideal sniper, but he's just a pretender)
Better Off Elsewhere: Jason Williams/Chris Osgood
Unsung hero: Brad Stuart, when everyone was injured, he was our strongest defenseman.
Most promesing Prospect in the organization:Justin Abdelkader, next year. Tomas Tatar, Mattias Ritola and Jakub Kindl as call-ups.
Best bang for the buck: Darren Helm and Patrick Eaves, for half a million a year they are playing way above their value.

Team MVP: Howard
Best Forward: Datsyuk
Best Defenseman: Lidstrom
Best Defensive Forward: Datsyuk
Rookie of the Year: Howard
Best Goaltender: Howard
Biggest Disappointment: Cleary, could say Ericsson or Leino too but Leino was exposed and taken care of and Ericsson...well he has sucked, but Cleary's cap hit makes him the bigger disappointment.
Biggest Surprise: Drew Miller
Best Free Agent Signing: Bertuzzi
Worst Free Agent Signing: Williams, I know he had the injury but he has looked useless lately.
Best Transaction: Acquiring Drew Miller off waivers
Most Improved Player: Bertuzzi. This is a tough one, I would say Howard but this is really his first real shot at the NHL so he doesn't really apply, same with Helm. Eaves and Miller are new to Detroit so they don't really count either.
Ideal Addition: semi-realistic...Paul Kariya, unrealistic...Kovalchuk
Better Off Elsewhere: Williams
Unsung hero: Drew Miller
Most promising Prospect in the organization: Tatar (forward), Brendan Smith (D)
Best bang for the buck: Drew Miller

I know I have a lot of Drew Miller love in there, but he just fits the bill for most of those in my opinion. No disrespect to Eaves, he's been a great signing too, but Miller beats him out in every one of those categories in my opinion.

Biggest Disappointment: Jason Williams, Ville Leino, Chris Osgood
Biggest Surprise: Jimmy Howard
Best Free Agent Signing: Patrick Eaves
Worst Free Agent Signing: Jason Williams
Best Transaction: Drew Miller off waivers
Most Improved Player: Tomas Holmstrom
Ideal Addition: A true sniper (right handed ideally) for the top 6 and PP.
Better Off Elsewhere: Jason Williams. Sadly Draper too, not that I think he's going anywhere. But $1.5 mill is a lot of cap space for his limited role.
Unsung hero: definitely Brad Stuart, he stepped up when the team was riddled with injuries.
Most promising Prospect in the organization: probably Justin Abdelkader, but I'm not that familiar with our prospects
Best bang for the buck: Miller, Eaves, Howard

There's a lot of Kovy in here, so I came up with a thought; do you guys think he would be ready to lower his cap hit if he got to play with Pavel? Did they play together at the Olympics?

Datsyuk started with Ovechkin and Semin. Kovalchuk played with Malkin and Afinogenov. But I think Datsyuk switch with Malkin later on during the tournament. I still don't think it will be enough to convince Kovalchuk to lower his cap hit, let alone come to Detroit.

I think a more realistic move would be Hemsky, as for free agents Stempniak or Frolov could be possibilities. Hudler seems to be coming back too.

btw, the Sharks will probably resign Pavelski, but do you think we can try to acquire him? he's quite a good player with a low cap hit.

I really think we can use Cleary and if need be Ericsson and Filppula to acquire some good players. But Holland should focus on youth and the future, since our top players are getting older and we need to start building our prospects.

I'm the only one that has picked E as the biggest disappointment? Wow, that's surprising.

Cleary's been so-so and I didn't expect much from Osgood or Williams, but after last year's playoffs it looked like E was ready to take off. Huge disappointment.

I agree with you on this, but the reason I pick Cleary is because

Dan Cleary $2.800M
Jonathan Ericsson $.900k

IMO- for $2.8M in a salary cap era, Clearys production should have increased if he stayed relatively healthy, but he didnt so I see could where this argument is somewhat bogus. Ericsson is playing his first full year in the NHL and has some really good games and some really piss poor games. Ericsson weakness right now is controlling the puck in our zone, where he either rushes the puck out to quickly or circles back and gets caught. I would give Ericsson another year before the disappointment cards come out. Cleary IMO has no excuses when healthy to produce the way he is and for the amount hes being paid.

I actually forgot about Ericsson while typing it up, probably because he hasn't been bad lately. But yes, he has definitely been a disappointment this season. Instead of continuing to develop, he seems to have taken a big step backwards and often has looked like the converted forward that he is.

This is nitpicking but while he technically makes the league minimum he's also getting his buyout check from Boston. I'm not sure if would've signed for that cheap had the other dollars not been coming in.

Since we're nitpicking:
What is it that Babcock did that was so great?
When we were injured, we were mediocre.
When we were healthy, we played pretty well.

As for Miller, how is it that he's the team's unsung hero. Seem's he's getting a lot of singing for a guy who is supposedly unsung, especially since he's far from being a hero on the hockey rink.

I'd say this about Miller: He's been pretty good for a waiver wire pickup.
