I heard something that the kid was taught English at a very young age and can speak it fluently.

Can anyone confirm or deny that?

McPhee stated that his English is excellent, but that's all I've heard

Where would he play? CHL import draft? I doubt the Caps sign him and assign him to Hershey though I think he could play there by rules.
I just come across things like that! Can't reveal

Most likely he will be playing in the CHL - Quebec Remparts...

He is not fluent - I would compare his English to Ovechkin's last year... But it's not bad!

Did Kugryshev get draft by Quebec in the import draft?

That would be pretty sweet if he did indeed decide to come over.

Hopefully he'll be at dev. camp. It'd be good have to him in North America gaining experience in a weaker junior league, too, despite the level of competition not being what the KHL could offer.

IT is CHL not KHL... And no - most likely he would not get any significant playing time on any CHL team in Russia due to the distrust the coaches usually have for young guns... "Rumor" has it - he was offered a very nice deal by SKA St. Petersburg... He turned it down.

You welcome!

Yeah, good point about playing time. One would think the Caps likely had an inkling that he might come over, which could in part explain taking him over the likes of Petrov and Grachev.

Man - today is definitely NOT your day... You are 0 for 2 now ( First KHL, now Grachev) Grachev is also coming to the Rangers camp and will be in NA next year...

On the other hand, Dmitri would prefer AHL to CHL (the Canadian one)... but that would be up to McPhee I guess...

Sorry, let me go flail myself for my unforgivable errors...

Hard to figure there being perceived to be much room in Hershey for him, though his performance in camp could well force their hand. They'll be breaking in quite a few AHL rookies as it is with Bouchard, Perreault, Morin and Osala all likely getting their first taste of full-time AHL play. Pinizzotto doesn't have a full season under his belt and should earn a regular spot in a depth role.

Add in (most likely) the return of Laing, Bourque, Giroux, Beagle, Wilson, Joudrey and perhaps a vet or two (Mink's return?) and spots are limited. They could make room but absent a big camp one would think--similar to Neuvirth last season--that he'll be sent down to junior.

agreed.

Plus why pay him. Also I'm not sure of the reasons why Bourque SPC carried over one year. If DK played in the AHL this year, I suspect one of his SPC years tick off. If so what is the benefit?

F--k. Patrick Roy gets to screw him up. Put him in Hershey Mcphee.

Seriously, we don't want Patrick Roy "developing" players. The guy is an awful coach IMO, just awful. His poor attitude seems contagious to many of his players and he isn't half the instructor that other coaches in that league are. If you're a star in Quebec, you get free reign on whatever kind of work ethic and attitude you care to bring to the rink. If you're not a star in Quebec....you get Roy's emotionally unstable furor directed at you.

That's not to say some players haven't developed in spite of Roy (Radulov etc) but
even then, it's not a team where bad habits go to die or confidence grows.

F'in hell. I'm glad he's coming over but I'd rather him on any other CHL team other than Roy's.

Oh and just an FYI (apologies if it's obvious to some), if DK does indeed plan on coming over than you can expect to see his name called on Thursday's CHL import draft. It's not really a typical draft where teams select the best from a list and are all competing for the best players. Deals sort of get worked out before hand, getting the player to agree to come to your team 'if' you draft them. Hence teams tend to only pick the guy they've got assurances will show up should you draft them. Which is why it's totally reasonable for a poster like the one on this thread to suggest he's going to play for Quebec even though the draft to officially claim his rights happens in two days and 25 other teams pick before the Remparts.

Anyway....if his name shows up on that draft on Thursday it'll be a good bet/confirmation that he's coming over to play for that team. It's that way in 90% of the cases except where a team may have it's import player slots filled for the following season and they'll try to snatch up the CHL rights for a younger player they hope to convince to join them in a year or two.

I thought that the rule was only 2 import players per protected list... Can you please clarify... And what is a minimum age for the imports?
