Quiet prospects posting year for us?

I put this a slightly different version of this on the the NHL Draft section of HFBoards just to see the reaction from the other team fans posters and I thought I'd post it here too to see how our gang reacts to this kind of outlook. It's not a denigration of our fellow Canadiens fans, IMHO, it's the way it's going to be this year:

"With the 25th pick traded away (along with next year's 2nd round pick) for Alex Tanguay and, aside from Danny Kristo, the other players picked being somewhat no-name (except maybe for Maxim Trunev and possibly Jason Missiaen), there'll be no heavy Habfans posting like there was the last few years.

From about 2003 till last year, lots was made of the draft picks, especially for the first rounders. Much of it, as is now proving out to be, was justifiable... some of the excitement may have been somewhat over the top but, on the whole, it was quite reasonable.

This year... it's gonna be quiet in Habsland.

These players (or maybe a couple of them) may make the next grade and one of them may actually make the team in some sort of a role but this crop seems to be the least likely to be trumpeted by the faithful of le bleu, blanc et rouge.

Nevertheless, we may yet be surprised... Timmins has a pretty good track record... "

My armchair prediction is that Subban will have the board buzzing this year.

Subban and Pac should create a lot of buzz, should be interesting to see how our rookies do in hamilton as well with Maxwell/White/Weber/Wyman. Got to think at least one of them will have a big year.

I really hope he works his tail off and earns a 10 game trial in the Mark Streit role. I am not worried about him leaving the franchise a year early he bleeds red white and blue and in a diminished role this year he could still go to the WJC.

If Maxim Trunev comes over to North America, and has some immediate impact, he will generate enough buzz around these parts.

I'd be shocked if that happend, I don't see why he would get a 10 game tryout unless he really looks great at camp. The Habs never seem to do this with their junior aged prospects either.

I think if Maxwell can stay healthy all year he will turn a lot of heads in Hamilton.

Ribeiro played 19 games as a 19 year old from what I recall.

Good call, hopefully he does get picked in the import draft and reports in august/sept. I'm also interested to see what happens with Quailer, if he ends up in the dub or goes to Northeastern.

Some good choices so far.

I get the feeling Subban will get a lot of posters excited this year.

Also agree about the Hamilton situation, that will be very interesting to see. I'm excited about our two WHL guys, but also very intrigued to see how Wyman does with a full season in the AHL.

If Trunev comes over he might make a S. Kost type of splash. The thing I like about him is that if he were born 8 days later he'd be an '09 pick and probably slated to go much higher. I'm usually skeptical when Timmins says "We had player X in the top 20" or "he'll be the steal of the draft" as all scouts talk up their picks, but more and more I'm getting really interested with the Trunev pick, especially if he comes over to the CHL and we get a chance to see a lot of him.

my answer in this thread is:

who cares about prospects... the goal of this game is to win hockey games, not to stockpile prospects and quietly shining them

Tanguay>>>>>>>>2 young players that may bust or not even come to North america

We still have tons of prospects to follow. I'm not quite sure I follow you.

Well Gui made the team a year early.
I know it would be shocking for him to get the 10 games and be sent down but when if he stayed all year? Honestly offensivley would he not be able to bring exactly what Streit does?

Yea but I don't think they were going to do the 10 game tryout with Lats, I seem to recall them saying he was sticking with the club all year. I really can't remember the last time we did the 10 game tryout with junior aged players. As for Subban, he could help offense, but you don't want to rush him and interfere with his development. He needs more time to improve his defensive game. Maybe they would give him a 10 game look but I'd be very surprised if that was the case.
