I respectfully disagree, he has(had) a great one timer, but he had one of the worst slapshots I have ever seen for a superstar.

I would watch Mario slap it past hapless goal keepers at a standstill, but Jagr always used the moves or his excellent release.

Was wondering when someone would mention Kilger. Depends on what you are looking for. If it is pure power, he has to be up there. I assume though the intent is in-game slaphot, i.e regulary releasing bombs that are accurate.

On a different note, Stralman doesn't have a bullet but I've noticed he does something almost nobody does, he shoots blocker side a lot. I like that. Much better odds there than trapper side, if you are going high.

Skill competitions can be a little mis-leading since the puck is stationary, right in the middle of the rink, you skate up to it and there's a little more pressure.

From watching games in person, the one guy who stood out to me as the player shot the puck harder than everyone else on the ice was Sheldon Souray.

Guys like Chara, Rolston, Kovalchuk, Malkin, Pronger, Lecavalier and the others named are right up there and deserve to be in the argument.

Ovechkin can shoot 100 mph, but I think what makes him impressive is the speed of which he can get the shot off morseo than the speed of the shot itself. He's obviously got a hell of a shot, but probably some of the defensemen have more consistently heavy shots.

Minnesota has three of the hardest slappers now: Rolston, Bergeron, and Foster. But I'd only rank Rolston's in the top-10 because his is very accurate. Maybe I'm underrating Bergeron, but whatever.

Others, in no order:
Kovalchuk
Souray
Chara
Ovechkin
Pronger
Lidstrom
Lecavalier
Schneider
Salo

Adrian Aucoin has an absolute cannon and one of the hardest shots in the league. Kurtis Foster has a very heavy shot as well.

Um, Dany Heatley's one-timer is pretty awe-inspiring. IMO, he makes this list.

Didn't Andy Sutton once give a goalie a fractured skull?

My vote goes for Souray atm. Ovechkin has a rocket as well.

But keep in mind that the thread is top 10 slapshots, not top 10 hardest slapshots. That means guys like Sundin and Lidstrom are in and guys like Bergeron aren't quite as highly regarded.

I have no idea how Al Iafrate and Al MacInnis can not be on anyones list. If i remember correctly Iafrate had like 105 or 106 when he was with Boston or Toronto? Im sorta young. But I do know for sure that MacInnis won it atleast 5 times.

He actually set the record when he was with the Caps (even if NHL.com wants to mislead you there ). I guess most people just want to focus current players/skills.

This is what I think exactly...

I don't understand why people put that much value in these competitions. The radar doesn't even calculate the actual puck velocity and it has a bias for low shots.

I agree, I'd add McCabe, Alfredsson, Ovechkin, Pronger and Heatly to make it a top nine list.

If this is a list of the BEST slapshots and not the hardest, I think Paul Kariya and Brian Rolston still have a pretty good chance to make the top 10.

I think Wideman has to be able to get his shot of faster and be more accurate to get consideration for top 10.

Perfectly said.

For the record, I don't think Ovechkin is in the top 10 in this category. Ovechkin led the league with 199 missed shots (by a margin of 82) and the vast majority of them were slappers.

His wrist shot and his power are his weapons. His slapshot is strong as hell but it's not accurate enough to be a consistent threat.

Yeah, I was going to throw him out there. His shot isn't near the hardest in the league, but his slap shot from the point is very accurate.

Agree, Kotalik's slap shot is great....easily the hardest on the Sabres by a long shot.
