has to be at least the best attempt at a slapshot.

If I had to guess who had the hardest shot I'd say Kotalik. He has a freaking cannon. I'd love to see him line up on the left point of the Pen's PP with that thing.

I'll agree with many others. Bergeron has one of the deadliest shots in the game. The reason he isn't more effective though is that he can't get it off fast enough. He's really not a great 5 on 4 player, but on the two man advantage, watch out because he'll probably score.

I'd say "hardest" and "best" are two different things.

Hardest: Sheldon Souray

Best: Nicklas Lidstrom. He's a master at getting the shot through to the net for deflections, including intentionally shooting wide alot to get them. He's also a master at creating juicy rebounds.

The hardest ones that I have seen in games have come from OV, Geno, Chara, and Souray.

I was at a Pens Habs game two years ago and Souray blasted one home from the point on the PP that was just a rocket.

Malkin and Ovechkin have cannons.

And Chara needs no explanation.

I guess Bergeron's is great as well, I had forgotten him.

Sorry M.A.

Rene Bourque has a top 10 slap shot.

I have seen alot of slap shots by alot of players and he ranks with the best of them. Sorry to say thats the only above average skill he has, every thing else is 4th line/AHL.

Brian Rolston is unquestionable in the top 5.

Wade Redden has a very accurate slapper that always seems to hit the net. It may not be the hardest shot, but it's pretty good.

Yeah are we talking about best? Or simply hardest? A lot of times best doesn't mean it's the hardest sshot.

Chara, Souray and Rolston have to be top-3. I know these guys have the heaviest but they know how to use them too. You don't score as many goals as they have (for their positions) with slapshots without knowing how.

Guys like Lidstrom and Redden have seeing eye shots but I'm not sure it's hard enough to qualify for this discussion.

If we're adding 'intelligent' slapshots into it, we'd have to include Gonchar. He has extremely good placement and beyond that, can shoot it hard and accurately enough that teams have to respect his shot... which leaves room for that Gonchar-to-Crosby-backdoor-to-Whitney play.

And as for hard, Malkin shoots it hard... but he generally zings it far too high for it to be effective as a point shot. As a pure goalscoring slapshot, very effective, but as a point shot to create an opportunity, it's useless.
