Fredrik Pettersson

We drafted this kid in 2005, but i never hear anything or see anything about him in the system. Is he not part of the teams future plans as well? I remember him being one of the few bright spots in training camp a couple of years ago.
cheers

Iirc, I saw him play in the Oiler Rookies vs Golden Bears two years ago and he was unreal. Battling in the corners, making tough plays, etc. I'm not sure what his scouting report was but based on that one game I saw it was a real shame we didn't sign him.

We didn't have the contract space and he didn't want to sign an AHL only deal.

Well, if he's a free agent maybe we could get him back. Maybe the next time Guy has KP on his show I'll submit it as a question.

He had a great last season with the Hitmen a year ago, but then completely disappeared in the playoffs (IIRC, just before the Oilers let him go). Incidentally, this season he played with Frolunda HC where a few recent draftees played (at least for a few games anyway, as they were typically with Frolunda's JR team): Erik Karlsson, Anton Gustafsson.

I love Pettersens game but he was just not big enough to be effective. Leader, skater, not afraid of defense but he was smaller then the 5'10" as is on his profile.

He should have a good long career in Europe.

He did impress a lot of people though, his speed, his shot his dangles were all pretty impressive. He has been dominant in other levels of hockey, actually most levels outside of the NHL he has been dominant, led the Roadrunners in scoring on a team with Stoll, Torres, Winchester, Toby the Great and Brodziak.

Salmelainen and Pettersson are actually quite comparable.

Just thought I'd give you an update on a former prospect of yours. Pettersson became quite popular in his first season in the SEL, though he played on the 4th line and only collected 13 points (6+7) in 53 games. In the playoffs Frölunda lost the quarter final in 7 against Färjestad, but this was Pettersson real breakout since he put on an absolute dominating performance, hitting, creating much offense. This season he has already surpassed his point total from last season, he has 20 points on 27 games so far. He is a fan favourite and I wouldn't be surprised if he get's the C when our current captain retires. Unless he is in the NHL by then... Frölunda have Sweden's most successful youth system, but many players come here when they become juniors. Pettersson is quite unique since he started playing here when he was 3 years old, and except for his WHL venture he has played for this organisation his whole career. Did I say fan favourite?

I can't see the Salmelainen comparison, to me he looks like a young Daniel Alfredsson.

I've never seen him play, but his WHL scoring numbers were very underwhelming. Perhaps he was mis-used or never given good minutes and opportunities (top-six minutes, power-play, etc.); I don't know.

He does seem to be doing well for himself this year in the SEL, however.

From the few times I saw him play (in the WHL/World Juniors) I always liked what Pettersson brought to the table, he was small, but had some wheels, played hard, didn't shy away from physical play, was a natural leader and seemed to have some solid offensive instincts as well.

didn't he suffer a major knee injury just after he was sent back to juniors? or was that someone else...

Update: Pettersson signed a two year contract, through the 2010-11 season, with Frölunda today. He started the season extremely well, but since he has slowed down a bit. He is mostly used playing on the teams checking line. He also got to debut for Tre Kronor during the season.

Interview about new contract, in Swedish, though worth checking out

Omark is about the same size and the same age but is putting up almost double the numbers in the SEL. Fredrik Pettersson was officially replaced on the depth chart once Omark was drafted- not even considering what the other small players drafted since then has done (Cogs, Gags).

Good luck to Pettersson.

Good luck to Pettersson.
Omark also plays on a first line, Pettersson plays on a fourth. Skill wise they are quite close, only difference is that Pettersson can do the dirty work.

He was 3+1 in a 4-1 win 2 games ago in the SEL and is currently 15th in scoring.
