Straka wanted back home

the news I am reading in Czech Rep is that the new czech League president leaves his post with the Pilsen club. He is making efforts to convince Marty to become a manager of the Club.

The loose translation of the article in Hokej.cz is that
Straka was contemplating staying home last year and is much closer to this decision now. Prez Kral hints that the Job is Straka's whenever he wants to take it, now or later.

Straka didn't want to comment. The Club prez says that Martin was abroad but the issue would be discussed with him this week.
There is a question of Marty being a player or a GM, or possibly both as well as being the Club Prez. Such situation would not be unprecedented. Both Robert Reichel and David Vyborny are players as well as Athletic Directors for their clubs.

There was also strong interest for Straka in Russia but Martin stopped all discussion
on that subject. His return to Pilsen seems virtually certain.

It was actually 3 years of hockey from Straka. Thanks for the memories but we have young players (Sjostrom, Korpikoski) that can fill your role. His $3m contract could be put to better use for a physical stay at home defenseman to play along side Staal.

Certainly Marty of last year is not the Marty he once was...but I'll miss his effort and speed. I have a soft spot for the guy....the Mike Milbury award says it all. Not bad for a soft european.
I cant find the clip for this award that Mike Milbury bestowed on Marty for blocking 3 shots in one shift..... help anyone

Loved Straka's effort. He'll be missed! But as others have said, it's time for us and him to move on.

I'm not surprised. The beer is just better in Pilsen.

his hustle and hard work as a veteran player really heped set the tone coming out of the lockout. great example for the kids to show you can put up points AND pay attention to defense.

Blueshirt...

I think the quote was two great years of hockey - which could imply last season was not a great year of hockey.

I think it's time to move on from Marty. Love his hustle, love his play, but he wasn't very helpful last year and that may be the beginning of a trend that I don't think the Rangers want to be in the middle of.

thanks for the 110% effort, im glad(if he leaves) that he went out on with still some respect and still able to play his game....he will be missed but im glad he is moving on to stay in hockey(another team with ties to the rangers is always a good thing)

Marty Straka was a good Ranger for the first two seasons. He was not very good last season. It appears the Rangers are going away from the Czech centric Jagr dominated Rangers theme which IMHO is a huge plus.Jagr is in limbo.Rozy isn't coming back.Malik is gone.Prucha could be the only Czech on the Rangers,

and that might not last for long either. If Slats could of found a taker, PP would have imo been gone last season.

And as far as Marty goes. Good luck to a true professional who played hard every single game that he wore a Ranger jersey.

Our game should be in Sweden next year not the Czech Republic. We may have no Czechs but we will definitely have one of the top Swedes in the league.

I'd like to see Marty back for one more season on a year deal. But if it's the Czech that's calling him then that is where he needs to be.

Thanks for all the toughness, and 110% all the time Marty.

Stracena was a true pro.
Played with heart, always playing at minimum 100%.
My one of my all time favs.

About Czechs and Rangers, i think it's more matter of good balance of nationalities and style in team - see Red Wings.
Rangers are more turning to Russians/Swedes, but thats only logical....Czech hockey is running low on gas and quality players, one of the cons of Velvet Revolution in 1989 when we got rid of communism.

The guy played his ass off here. I have absolutely no regrets about his play and I wish him luck in his post-Ranger career. Thank you Marty

I loved Marty Straka to the uttmost...he is, and will remain, one of my favorite rangers ever.

I wouldn't mind him coming back for one more year, but if he decides to play in the Czech Republic, he's earned that right. Wish him all the best either way.

Straka played his heart out every shift. We'll all miss you. One of my favorites and was one of the fastest players on the ice even at his age.
