What players could be acquired?

From Mike Heika (DMN hockey reporter)
Quote:
Obviously, you guys want a free agent thread.

Bottom line, I have been digging around, and it appears the Stars are gong to do very little in free agency.

Les Jackson has confirmed the Stars will have an internal budget next season and will not spend to the cap. My guess is that number is close to $52-$53 million, so it's not like they are that far off from the cap ($55-56 million). He said Tobias Stephan will be the team's backup goalie, and that the team expects to allow its unrestricted free agents (including Niklas Hagman) to test the market.

My guess is Hagman, Antti Miettinen, Johan Holmqvist and Brad Winchester are gone.

The Stars then would have two goalies (Turco, Stephan), seven defensemen (Zubov, Boucher, Robidas, Daley, Grossman, Fistric, Niskanen) and 10 forwards (Morrow, Ribeiro, Richards, Modano, Lehtinen, Ott, Eriksson, Lundqvist, Petersen, Barch) pretty much written in pen. In addition, there are several prospects (Fabian Brunnstrom, James Neal and B.J. Crombeen to name a few) who are fighting for a forward spot.

They would have openings for three forwards, and if we're assuming two of those players would be rookies, they have room for one free agent.

That means they have a need for a right-handed right wing who will take somewhere between $2-3 million a season. That limits the field, for sure.

So who fits that description?
So 2-3 million!! who is out there that is worth that much and would fit the mold of the Stars?

Maybe a bit more than 3 million but still, he's probably the closest thing to what you are looking for.

Did Ryder play with Riberio at all back in their Montreal days?

There's no way Ryder gets more than 3 mils on the open market with the last season he's had.

A team might do well to start their offer at one year, 2 mil. He he finds his touch back, he could be a good second line sniper. He'll be looking for a multi-year 3 mil per contract but I don't think any team will give him that kind of offer so he may have to fold to a single year deal.

Yes Ryder played with Ribeiro pretty much every game.

Ryder was paid $2,950,000 last season.... and had his worst season ever. After posting 30G 25A and 30G 28A seasons, he was scratched and labeled as a lazy player this season... he only got 14G 17A in 70 games. Carbo wanted to play the vets at the start of the playoffs... Ryder got 0G 0A in 4 playoff games and sat the remaining of the games.

I highly doubt there is any kind of bidding war for him, and I see him signing either a 1 or 2 year deal at between $1,5M and $2,5M MAX.

Realistically he gets $2M per for 2 years in Dallas and scores 30 again on Ribeiro's wing playing with Morrow as well.

Knuble might be available. He has one year left at $2.8. Something could be added to him if Philippe Boucher is available.

I'm sure there will be a desperate team who'll be ready to give him 3 million or more...

Canucks will atleast kick tires on a player like Mike Ryder.

Theyve needed a 30 goal scoring right handed right winger for years.

Awards:
Ryder had such a weird year last year. Nothing changed, he played on the same line with Koivu and Higgins (to start)...but he just didn't have whatever touch he had the previous three years.

I'm thinking if the Stars only want depth and not necessarily top-flight talent, there might be Radivojevic for much less than 3 millions.

Still think that a team who gets Ryder for less than 3 might be hitting a home run. Who knows.

depends on where brunstromm fits in. If he's gonna be in the top six, i dont see them getting ryder. If not, ryder seems like a perfect fit.

If you were willing to pay the 1st and 3rd for an RFA offer over 2.6m, I doubt the Avs would match above 2.6m for Marek Svatos.

If trade is an option, Ales Kotalik might be available from Buffalo. Right-handed RW who has played left mostly the last couple of years, but was RW before that.

Wouldn't count on it; he's signed in Russia for the next two years.

You can probably afford Darcy Tucker, but he's coming to Buffalo.
