Bouwmeester?

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/fla080626.html
Thefourthperiod reports he's not happy in FL. Offer sheet material? Worth having on the team?

Discuss.

I'd take JBo or Mike Green on the team.

Oh yessss.

Personally I like Jay-Bo more. You, Capn?

(I think Hitchcock likes Jay-Bo more as well, if that matters)

Yes--make the deal.

However-- he would have been a Jacket if DM didn't make the trade with FLA.

EDIT-- my feeble mind reminds me that FLA would have drafted JBo first. The assumption was that Atlanta would have grabbed Nash.

To have 2 of the top three picks from that draft would be tasty.

Oh yeah in a heartbeat. Wonder what it would take since he's a rfa.

If your going to make an offer sheet, that seems to be the kind of guy... However, I think they'd match so who cares.

If you're gonna throw Sergei Fedorov's money at an RFA, this would be the one.

And sadly, that's what it would probably take. I don't see it happening, but I'll dream with the rest of your guys for a few days

Looking dimmer but hey!

His money might be huge, JM came across media recently and said he would match any offer, which is a little exagerated considering if someone offered him 6-7 mil. Then you would have to be prepared to give up those 1sts!

They have 8 solid Dmen, include Bowmeester, and really don't have much spare after the 6 or so mill they'll need to resign him...but I still can't figure why they wouldn't have moved him already if that was their intention. I gotta believe they'll come to terms in the next weeks.

Who is going to score goals for FLA this year anyways?

I could stand a guy named JBo, but "Bouwmeester"... no.
It's all about the appearance of things for me.
Nice stats for a dman.
But now that he's in line for Captaincy and more bucks, why leave?
And how much can Florida afford to BLEED?
Are they TRYING to get to OK City, or what?

I'd give him a four year deal starting with 7.5 mil and have each year go down .5 mil. Of course it's not my money though.

This is the puck moving d-man we have been looking for. The question is if we try to get him through a trade or an offer sheet? I would trade Niki Z for JB any day of the week.

I think it's 2 very different cases (J-Bo vs Green), even outside the style of play.

J-Bo is going to be a UFA next off-season, so if he wants to get out of FLA as rumored, there is NO way he's going to sign an offersheet, because the Panthers are almost certain to match any offer.

Green is a different case. He's 5 years from UFA eligibility, and I think he'd sign any offersheet > $5M. The problem is that the Caps would almost certainly match any offer less than the 2x 1st, 2nd, 3rd round compensation (around $5.2M). Over that level they might let him walk, and I think he'd be worth it.

I defintetely think that J-Bo would be a better fit. He's a legit #1 at this point in time. Green is still shaky in his own zone, but he's jsut got great offensive skills & instincts. The only way the Jackets end up with J-Bo is if they trade for him. Zherdev & 1st would be the minimum level IMO.

love to get JBo but 4 1st rd picks is a lot to give up for one player

Quote:
Below $863,156 No Compensation
$863,156-$1,307,812 Third-round pick
$1,307,812-$2,615,625 Second-round pick
$2,615,625-$3,923,437 First- and third-round picks
$3,923,437-$5,231,249 First-, second and third-round picks
$5,231,249-$6,539,062 Two first-rounders, a second-round pick and a third-round pick.
$6,539,062 or more Four first-round picks

I think Zherdev + Fritsche could possibly do it. I'd probably make that move and spend money on offense. I'd feel a whole lot better about our d and J-Bo could stay here for 10+ years.

I think Jackets fans overvalue the market for Fritsche and NHL GM's undervalue him. Its Martin though, so who knows what he thinks Bouwmeester's value is.

So? You're making it sound like that was a poor trade. Sorry if I'm mistaken.

Anyway, do it. Like others are saying, Bouwmeester and Green are THE guys you would really want to offer sheet for that kind of cash.

I would love him on the CBJ, but not if we have to trade Z. Our O is more of a problem than our D, and Z is easily our 2nd best offensive player (and a damn good one). IMHO, JB isn't going to help us if we lose Z (and it wouldn't just be Z, either). We need to score.

I'm not a fan of trading Zherdev either, but the question becomes, if we have a better transition game, and also just better shooters from the point, will that ultimately impact our goal totals more than just having Zherdev? Especially if we end up with Malone to accompany Nash, Modin, and Umberger. Those guys can spend more time in front of the net(think Holmstrom) if they have a guy(think Lidstrom) that can consistently get the puck to the net.

That said, I'm not even sure Florida would really want Zherdev+1st or something like that. Why do that when they could get 2 1sts, 2nd, and 3rd?

Do we have to start a new thread for every RFA or UFA that is either linked to the Jackets or may not get a qualifying??

It just seems like we've had all these threads started the last few days about specific players....

Unless we acquire them, I think we should keep it in the Free Agents Thread.... Just sayin...

Until Tuesday, its probably going to be boring since Niles likes to play it close to the vest. I guess we've got to do something to pass the time.

Someone want to start a Bubba thread?
