He does drive to the net, but not nearly often enough, which is one of the knocks on him. He is at his absolute best when he is barreling to the net because of how strong he is. And no, he doesn't take big slappers or wristers from the wing because those are mostly wasted shots. Instead he'll try and make a move to the middle of the ice before shooting. Once again, him taking the body is another factor that pisses me off... when he is doing it, he is a better player, but that is all part of that whole argument from before on Rita... he doesn't do enough all the time. All he needs is Ethans head in his body, just how Ethan plays the game, and Rita is a top checking winger in the NHL. Until he does something like that, he's going to be a guy who will struggle to find his place in the NHL.

I have seen Rita twice against NHL level guys. IMO, he has the skill to be a contributor but lacks the desire. I don't like the fact that he is getting chances while other guys aren't. The fact that he is the emergency call-up AFTER Bishai speaks plenty about what Oiler mngt feels about his heart. Craig MacT is paid to win games and he puts guys on the ice who give him the best chance to do that. Right now, Rita is getting more ice time than he deserves.

Somteimes guys need a change of scenery to re-focus their careers. This certainly seems to be the case with Rita. Perhaps a trade for an equally disappointing Brendl could be worth the risk for both the oilers and the hurricanes.

Well I'm not gonna call you a liar

but no he doesn't drive off the wing like Moreau does. He will take it from down low but not off the wing.

And if he doesn't shoot like Moreau then how is he like Moreau>

Yes he does, and it's how he scores a lot of his goals. He comes along the wing, and if he fakes trying to go wide, and cuts in front of the defenceman using him as a screen. He's scored at least 20 goals at the AHL level in that exact same fashion.

Why don't I just argue with stone??

He is like Moreau in that when he plays like he can, he brings a very physical game to the table, as well as an ability to lock down other teams better offensive players. Don't forget, Moreau wasn't as good defensively when he first entered the league as he is now, so of course Rita isn't as good at this point as Moreau is in his own end, but I don't see why he can't improve his game as much as Moreau did.

WOW!

You must have a pretty fuel efficient car. (perhaps you pooled)

What's Brampton to Hamilton? 60-80 km? (guessing) Brampton to TO? 30-50 km? (guessing again of course)

4 seasons, 41 home games (+ post season every year)

That's alot of driving. Mind you it's not uncommon for people around there to drive over an hour to work every day.

Namecalling?

That should be a pretty easy argument for you to prove seeing as everything's saved here going back a couple months.

Find me one example, loser. OK, two examples.

50 minutes to Copps, 25 mins to Riccoh.

The driving wasn't that bad, though it did put a lot of kms on the car, and for the most part, I usually only went to about 30 or so games, and only about 18 so far this year (I gave all my tickets for December away).

Up until this year when I got centre ice, it was the only link I had to live "Oiler hockey", so I kind of didn't put any stock into it... plus they are a business expense, which makes them a little more attractive come tax time .

Rita

I have given the same opinion about Jani Rita for a long time and I know some Rita supporter showed how he must be good because he was 41st of the top 50 prospects on the Hockey News Future watch.

A couple of things they of course failed to mention. That he was 14th on last years Future Watch list and dropped to 41st this year.

Future Watch is compiled by 15 head scouts and directors of players personnel who were asked to grade each teams prospects. They also gave teams overall points for players that have made the NHL so not to penalize teams who fast track players.

The fact that Jani Rita dropped that much tells you what you need to know about Jani Rita, and just in case you believe I and many of the other posters who have been questionning Rita's desire, grit and determination were out to lunch.

Here is the comments compiled from those chief scouts and directors of player personnel.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Everyone expected Rita would be an NHL regular by now. He knows what to do at both ends of the ice and has shown well in two-plus seasons in the AHL. Despite his major league speed, strength, and a great shot, he hasn't been able to translate his skills to the NHL"

He played 12 NHL games last season, but there's not much urgency or intensity to his game, but he has all the tools to be a solid NHL'er"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I have said many times I have no question he has the talent to play in the NHL but he doesn't seem to want it bad enough and doesn't give a strong enough effort every night.

He has all the tools but doesn't always bring the toolbox. In other words he has all the tools but he doesn't always bring them.

Yep it is very easy to blame Lowe, Mactavish, the organization but looks like the scouts around the NHL know the facts about the reason Rita is not making it and it is time for Jani Rita to look in the mirror and it looks the scouts would agree with that assesment.

When there are only 11 forwards, it's hard to play the fourth line much.

In a game that is 4-0 after 40mins, it would be smarter to play Rita and Bishai a little more in the 3rd and rest some of the guys like Smyth and Horcoff etc. 3rd game in 4 nights as well, risking injury to one of the core guys in a 3rd period of a game like this doesn't make much sense to me.

I agree with you whole heartedly... In a blow out game like the one tonight, what difference if you test this kid out. Put him with Stoll and Hemsky and see if he can turn his game up a notch. Tough to judge a player based on two shifts in a game.

Never stopped MacT from mixxing the lineup before, get the guy in. enough wasting potential, he's either boom or bust, but we will never know unless he plays consistently. I would think Lowe would like to know if the organization should resign him after this year.

That I apologize for.

It wasn't you that I was thinking about when I posted that comment. I honestly just looked at the words and responded without even looking at the name.

Yeah 3rd game in four nights

would'vebeen interesting to see what all the apologists would've said if some of the now core guys were hurt logging big minutes in a blowout.

But they didn't get hurt, so it's irrelevant.
