After what Kovalchuk was able to do down the stretch with Holik and Thorburn on his line, I think Bertuzzi would be the perfect RW for him. With his size he can create open space for Ilya in the offensive zone.

The Thrashers can bolster their RW position, and be able to spend more to get some UFA D help.

The Oilers would probably be interested but we have Penner.

Yes, he'll pass through waivers for sure. I'm just wondering if he's "Jeff O'Neill" done or is he "yeah, I, gullable GM, will pay for your services but you, the player, continue to suck" done.

So this begs the question...

Who puts in a claim and gets him?

If the Ducks do, in fact, buy him out, they will have paid him $200,000 per point.

No, because GMs of those same proclaimed "crap" teams aren't idiots they're made out to be.

With that said, I could see Don Waddell doing this.

I would more than welcome Bertuzzi going elsewhere in the NW. One less forward to worry about.

That might actually work out well. Bertuzzi has become a perimeter playmaker now. He's a passing robot who could hit Kovalchuk heading to the slot a lot. Of course he also makes a lot of dumb passes to no one in particular.

Here's hoping the Thrashers take him because I sure as hell don't want to have him buried in the minors or bought out.

I don't know how to feel about this honestly.
- Obviously Burke is going to make a run at Perry (hey Ducky fans, maybe Perry isn't being so much of a 'teamplayer offersheet denyin sunofagun' if Burke has to ditch a $4 mill player to sign him.

- So Bert can clear waivers and go to the minors and then the Ducks still have to pay his salary. BUT, if they bring him thru re-entry waivers and no on claims him, doesnt his salary get cut in half?

PS: Bertuzzi is awesome in NHL08

No wonder SI.com recently voted him #1 GM in the NHL!

Someone will claim him on re-entry for sure. 1 year @ $2 million is not bad deal for Bertuzzi.

Part of the reason some teams are crap is because they are smallish, lack toughness, and have awful depth at RW

The Rangers should worry about getting Jagr first.

And doesn't Jagr play with Dubinsky?

And Bertuzzi is pretty much third-line fodder at this point.

But yeah.

Wrong. The Penner/Bertuzzi situations were mutally exclusive; Bertuzzi was supposed to be Selanne's replacement, not Penner's. The Ducks were never going to sign Penner for $4M.

I may be crazy but I would take a shot with him on a one year deal.

The people that think he is overpaid (he is) are correct, but where else do you upgrade LW for less than that?

Huselius might score more points, but I would rather have Bertuzzi for what he can bring on the PP down low, toughness, and simply creating matchup problems.

Burke's logic is seriously flawed.
1 year of Bert at 4 million and 40 points
When he could have had
4 years of Penner at 4 million and 47 points (With potential for even more)

I could see him being picked up on re-entry waivers if he isn't bought out (and yes I knew that is a while down the road).
