I'm glad to see we didn't get sentimental and keep him. It's a shame what happened to him, but I guess it's time to move on.

Anyone want to post their favorite Duvie memories?

Sentimentality is for message boards, not for front offices of NHL teams. This is unfortunately a good move.

His given name is Druval. Who needs a favorite moment?

My favorite memory of Duvie will be when he's bought out.

About time. He's a great guy and all, but he was never able to come back after all that concussion business.

What year was that from? That's a lot more hair than I remember Duvie having

EDIT: I saw Richardson and this is also before Duvie took Trevor Letowski's number so I'm guessing like... year before the lockout maybe?

I still love that he's getting Hi-5s from -everyone- as he gets off the ice. Players, trainers, crowd, hell I think the Ref might have slipped him some daps, too.

Good one. That'll sum it up for me.

Good luck, Mr. Westcott.

My favorite Duvie moment is when he was our voodoo doll. If he was injured and out, we sucked. If he was in, we were a team with a winning record. Unfortunately, as was usually the case with Duvie, he was out more than he was in.

So long Druval.

Duvie used to always catch people with their head down crossing the blueline.. when Doug signed him to that contract a couple years back, I actually thought it would look reasonable (like it would) if Duvie became the player it looked like he was poised to become

really too bad about the concussion issues.. I always found it interesting that in some media guide Duvie's answer to: "What would you be doing if you weren't an NHL hockey player?" was that he'd be a professional
poker player.

here's to Duvie's making moves at the No Limit table!

I'll remember, for the rest of my life, what Brian Engblom would say: "Who is that Duvie Westcott?"

I loved me some Duvie.

I can see the teams lining up to sign him now..

Seriously though, this guy was going to be impossible to move anyways... I believe he still has something in the neighboorhood of four years left on the deal or something.

We owe Doug MacLean a great big thanks for that contract...

Westcott gave 100% and for that I am grateful, but he was never worth 1.8 mil and we can thank xgmdm for that.

I have nothing against Duvie, but I can't say I'm sorry to see him and his contract gone...

IIRC Westcott was coming off a pretty good season and most saw his contract as a good one.

Hindsight, how you mock me.

A necessary move.

What's with the inordinate amount of buyouts this offseason, anyways?

Lack of free agents + large rise in cap = more money for transactions like this?

I don't like the move. I thought H&H are about building depth and having guys earn their way. I understand he was over-paid but Duvie was an all heart guy, went down to the Cuse and handled it like a true pro trying to get his career back. I thought the reports were that he was playing well for the Crunch.

I would have like them to bring him to camp and let him compete. It needs to be about earning your keep and Duvie at the least would have worked for it. If he doesn't, you send him back to Syracuse, try re-entry waivers to see if anyone wants him. Duvie was a class guy and a good player before the head issues.

If this a hockey decision, so be it but I have my doubts. It's not we like are going to be even sniffing the cap where this savings will make 1 bit of diffence.

The thing is, a spot for Duvie in Syracuse means one less spot for a young prospect. It's certainly a good thing to have a veteran, hard-working guy around, especially with the youngsters, but I'm sure they feel they can get someone much less expensive for that job. And ultimately, if Duvie isn't in this teams future, being stuck in Syracuse isn't worth it for anybody.

Au contraire... Duvie was really improving his game right up until the concussions took their toll. In hindsight, $1.8 was only a bit high, but Duvie was still improving at the time.

Tough break.
