OT- CFL Ad

http://www1.cfl.ca/media-centre/index.php?playclip=493
For anyone interested, that's the new ad for the CFL. If only the NHL could pull their pants up and follow suit.

im curious to wonder who actually needs an "ad" to get into a sport? if thats what any sport is depending on - wow. is there anyone here who got into hockey because of an ad? if so, please head to the garage and start the car.

That, I must say, is awesome.

Nice Friday Night Lights vibe and great clips. Though is it just me or did they come up with most of that song by crossing Arcade Fire's "Wake Up" with Heart's "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You"?

I'm an advertising nut... and I couldnt watch until the end, tuned out at about the 42 adopted brothers part. Pretty bland generic stuff. I know what they were going for, to give it a nostalgic and emotional feel, and thats a decent brand strategy for a league like the CFL, but the execution I'm not a fan of... at all.

The best CFL advertising is usually released by the BC Lions IMO. They have an outstanding agency (rethink).

Well as someone who's not a big fan, this made me a bit more excited about the season; so if it gets to the people (reading the comments it did to others too) isn't that a mission accomplished?

I watched that video in the spring and they had different and IMO way better music played to it.

It was sorta an Aboriginal chant with drum beats and kind a Moby beat.

I'm not sure why they changed it

I don't know to be honest. We'll see when the seasons over I guess.

Then why does the NFL and MLB spend millions of dollars advertising? It seems to work for them. I'm not sure why the NHL still makes such crappy ones.

This is brilliant. The CFL is something very special and should be celebrated. Perhaps if some of the NFL fanboys in this country realized what a significant cultural institution the CFL is, they might give it the respect it deserves.

that shot towards the end where maciocia falls down to his knees is far from inspiring..... otherwise it's pretty cool.

As an Eskies fan, it hit me the hardest, so to each his own though...but to the casual observer, yeah it looked like he got shot.

Well from someone who is not a huge fan, that actually had me wanting to watch football. I thought that was awesome. It may not make a huge fan more of a fan, but for those who are not that interested in the sport it is pretty convincing advertising that you should be watching the game.

Yeah because once your popular there is no sense in advertising at all...nobody else does it right?
I thought the video was great! I'm actually an NFL fan now but this video was very well done.
I'm sure the CFL when they made this video wasn't thinking "Ok, we have to make this cool video to get people to like CFl football" and it was more along the lines of promoting the league to fans and future fans.

I might try to catch more CFL this year, never paid much interest in the past.

Would have gone to a game when in Edmonton had my flight been leaving a day later.

I respect the CFL, for a country of 30 million its a great league.

It just pales in comparison to American football.

Will this be the year the NHL comes up with a good marketing strategy?

In terms of hype and marketing yes, the CFL is far behind.

In terms of being Canadian and relevant to Canadians the NFL can't compete. I would rather buy tickets and support my local CFL team than watch the NFL on TV. The CFL is relevant to my city, the NFL is a TV show - like CSI or The Apprentice.

hehehe, well, fair enough. but I've been an Esks season ticket holder and fan of the team my whole life, and can honestly say Maciocia has yet to inspire me! the footage of campbell and the Giz was cool though....

the ad is well done. But I think the tag line "it's OUR game" doesn't make sense. To me, our implies ownership from a group perspective. If you are on the outside lookig in (obviously this is why the ad was made in the first place) then I think it says hey your on the outside and we're having fun on the inside but you are still an outsider. I think a small change to "it's YOUR game" would make much more sense. This would imply that the game is for me, for you and for everyone else.

or perhaps if they would watch the games without thinking it was inferior just because they would see that it's good exciting football. I got nothing against the NFL I like football and I'll watch the NFL if there's nothing else on TV but in terms of excitement for me the NFL can not hold a candle to the CFL regardless of the individual talent some NFLers have.
