The best scenario would be a bidding war for Jagr betweeen Pitt, Edmonton and NY. Pittsburgh is in the best cap shape of all, even with Malkin's pending extension. This might give the Habs the opening they need to get a hold of Sundin, although the 20 million from Vancouver would be hard to refuse.

I agree with many here - we need either Sundin or Jagr to have a legit shot at a Cup this year.

Plus, we are still too soft in my opinion.

Plan C,D,E?

I like the names of Laraque, Naslund/Morrison, Orpik.

Sign Ryan Clowe to an offer sheet for 4.5 million

The Rangers can find a way to fit Sundin...but I don't think he is a New York kind of guy...I really like the Hbas chances with Hossa in Detroit.

We have a way better chance of winning a cup than Vancouver imo. If Sundin goes to Van then it's mainly for the money. If he really wants a cup than I agree we're his best option.

Hopefully he sign's with Montreal, I sure the Leafs will get the compensation that was agreed upon. Probably a sign and trade.

And Avery signs with Dallas for four years at 16 million.

The signing of Jeff Finger has compelled Sundin to come back to Toronto.

He's not property of the Leafs anymore...the boat on compensation has sailed.

I have heard that there will be no compensation if he signs with the Habs now.

I just don't see Sundin signing with us. We had one week to convince him to do so. Now he gets 'Nucks offer and he might be finally ready to decide if he wants to play after all? Talk about some coincidence....

He's going over there and will try to convince us that money had nothing to do with it....

No he want's to retaind his Iconic reputation in Toronto and have his name in the Rafters with Salming, he'll make sure the Leafs are compensated for him going to Montreal. He's the only impact guy out there and the only Impact Centre on the Market.

Seing Hossa's contract, I think Sundin should go for one year. Like that, if he wants to retire in a year, he can, and if he wants to sign somewhere else, he can!

...

So you think he's going to demand something be given to Toronto?

He's not going back to Toronto six times a year after waiting to sign after July 1, so that the Canadien don't have to pay Compensation. If he ends up in Montreal there will be Compensation, Gainey is too principled not to do that.

That doesn't make any sense.

I think he'll come to Montreal if he can convince Gainey to put a $10-million offer on the table.

If Sundin signs with the Habs he'll insist that the Leafs get COMP and Gainey will Concur.

Mats Sundin needs more time to decided his future, releasing the following statement. "Unfortunately, I am simply not close to being ready to make a decision about resuming my career at this time."

That makes no sense from his standpoint...the team is going nowhere, they let Tucker Raycroft Wellwood go and added Mayers Hagman and Finger...if they sign Sundin they are at the cap and no younger or better than last year...after trying to trade him last year, I don't think he goes back there.

It's not like you're the pinnacle of optimism anyway... so instead of making hasty conclusions, I'll just wait and see...

A few days ago you were adamant that he'd go to NY...

If he comes to Montreal, the Habs should compensate the Rangers too, for all the trouble. Sundin will also make Gainey give a prospect to Phoenix. Just because he feels sorry for them. (e4)
