Is Pavol Demitra the most underated free agent?

Since Sundin seems to be out of the question, I was wondering if Pavol Demitra could not be shown as a decent alternative? This guy had impressive number with a very defensive team and his career stats are extremely impressive.

I know he had all kind of injuries in the last 3 years but this guy is legitimate first line center. Yea he's not a 6'5'' two way center like Sundin but that guy could be a decent alternative.

Pavol Demitra (in career)

699 points, 281 goals, +115 in 750 games

In his last 3 seasons (with Minnesota and LA)

65 goals, 180 points , +30 in 197 games

Add Tanguay and Demitra to our lineup and we will be a serious contender next year.

My vote goes to Nagy; supposedly he's training hard to disprove naysayers this summer.

Like my wife says, we need more Slovaks on the team

Nagy was at the origin of the racist comments against the french speaking lineman at the game in Montreal 2 years and a half ago (against Phoenix). I am not sure that this guy would be popular in Montreal, even more when the Habs are celebrating their 100th anniversary.

Bob Gainey can't wait forever. And Sundin won't decide until July 1st or later. So Bob Gainey need to go for plan B on July 1st.

According to RDS...who's got mad sources yo...Sundin will test market and doesn't seem quite set on passing the next season in MTL..apparently he doesn't know if he's coming back at all..

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/254657.html

BUT, according to our main guy, Mr.Eklund, who's got even sicker sources yo.. Sundin is very impressed with my old G, my man Bobby, with how he presented the Habs and could very well sign this Sunday..

Nah Demitra is hurt often and on the downhill. Nagy is lazy.

Doesn't mean Hes Ruled out. Just means July 1st if Bob doesn't get a solid answer hes going with Plan B. Because Sundin is playing the selfish card(he is entitled) Plan A, B, C, D, E are all capable of moving. So if we wait for Plan A to make his mind up plan B,C,D,E might have already been taken, gone or traded.

Yes Demitra is underrated. Ribeiro had 50-58 point seasons with the Habs, and Demitra had something like 50-60 points on a very defensive team. So with us he COULD very well do some heavy damage.

Time Will Tell.

Enough of Sundin already. Enough time lost on a single player!

We will end up being ****ed in the ass like last year with Briere. I say go for one of Rolston/Demitra/Morrison/Malone/Huselius, and keep going.

Demitra is underrated because he's seen as damaged goods and something as a Falloon Syndrome guy where he got lots of points because he got lots of ice time, not because he was especially good.

Demitra is a great player but I thought that he was only used sparingly at center. We need a center that can play center, not another center better suited at wing.

Funny we were ****ed in the ass and still got 1st place. And we managed a pretty good signing in Hamrlik. You of all people would appreciate lol.

Demitra is a good player but is soft and doesn't fill a perticular need.

Rolston > Demitra for the Habs.

Demitra is on his last legs. No thanks.

Hasek has some awesome career numbers, does that mean we should sign him?

Isn't Demitra pretty much guaranteed to sign in Vancouver?

Since when is Sundin out of the question, am I missing something here?

Demitra is soft and injury prone.

I would love to add Demitra to our lineup. He would be a good veteran who can put up a few points and provide leadership.

To have Plekanek as our third line center, we do need a superstar. Not a player like Demitra.

Players like Demitra, Rolston, Nagy and anyone outside of Sundin and Hossa (Jagr could be here as well) are secondary players at this stage in their careers. Paying Demitra and Rolston 5 million per would be an over payment for your return.

We need a solid big centre like Sundin, a player who hasn't seen his production drop while playing with inferior second rate talent.

Hossa is nice, but with Kosty(s), Kovalev, Tanguay and Higgins there is scoring here already and we need that centre like I said.

I'd rather see Jagr come here over Hossa, he'd be cheaper and would be a big body that could also play RW.

Sundin is the man though.

If we can't land him, I suspect Gainey is going after someone in a trade.

There are no impact players of Sundin level available via trade either.

From the rumours I've been reading, the closest to Sundin would be *cringes* Patrick Marleau.

Exactly.

But, who knows if a Marleau and Cheechoo package may not be too expensive in trading for in regards to players/prospects/picks?

A change of scenry maybe helpful to both, and Cheechoo being closer to home and a proven scorer may click with the likes of Koivu, Tanguay or whomever?

Lot's of question to be answered...but I think Gainey leans this way now with Jokinen gone to Phoenix.

Unfortunately, Marleau is not the player we need at this point.

And Marleau + Cheechoo package?

Just the thought of Marleau coming to Montreal is making my head hurt. But I agree, especially with Jokinen off the market. If Gainey is so intent on getting a top line type C, (even though I don't think Marleau is one). Marleau will probably be on Gainey's radar, that's why I'm hoping that July 1st comes quickly. With Marleau's NTC coming into effect, hopefully he won't drop it to play for us.
