As a Ranger Fan I have to say I like him alot. He is a major asset in the playoffs (you try and zone out a guy like this for 7 games) and gives it his all(During the playoffs)...4 mill a year might be too steap but 3mill/4years and I would take it in a second. The Rangers don't seem to have any players that would crash to the net like he does...

I think he ain't worth that much, but I think there are teams that are willing to pay that amount. After all he is something people like to see at the ring. Some teams might try to lift up their spectator amount after last year so I think he'll head to Atlanta or LA.

He would be great for Atlanta...but it would be rather awkward since everybody on the team hates his guts after NYR swept them.

If Zhitnik hadn't grabbed Ilya, Kovalchuk may have sent Avery to the hospital. Ilya totally lost control. Might have pulled his hair too.

Wow and Leaf fans thought Tucker's contract was bad.

If Avery gets a 4 million dollar a year deal Tucker will get 4.5 on the open market even comming off a 18 goal year.

Who the hell you are talking about? Lethonen or Lundqvist aren't "some semblance of a starting goaltender" ??? Ok... everyone has their own opinion i guess...

Getting Elisha Cuthbert to pretend to date you must cost a lot of money. These FA contracts will be insane this year.

I'd love to have the guy in Vancouver.

He would be living in the greatest city in North America (no arguement there). A great hockey city, and he would definately be in the spot light with our media outlets here.

Vancouver is home to many movie stars, obviously not as many as NYC, but still a very high number.

Vancouver would easily pay what he's asking for, and he could definately be great on the 3rd line with Kesler and Burrows. We could finally get rid of Cowan and Rypien, as well as Isbister and Pyatt. As Avery would take basically all their roles into 1 guy.

The Kesler/Burrows line is already one of the top 3 checking lines in the NHL. Add Avery to that and it's basically unstoppable.

And best of all, we have the cap space to afford whatever he wants.

I'd love Avery to come to Edmonton; he would be a solution to many of the Oilers problems:
-Secondary scoring
-Edge to his game
-Focus off the superstars by opposing teams

While I think 4 mill over 4 is too high, I would be really happy to give 3.5 per 3 years...

I thought that the Rangers record showed a huge difference with and without him, maybe I am wrong here.

No. They offered him 7 yrs at $7M a piece. The Flyers offered him 8 yrs at $6.5M a piece. Though there is only a $3M difference between the two offers so Montreal fans shouldn't complain about him being overpaid when their team was willing to put up close to the same amount of money for him.

Carter and Avery are no comparison whatsoever. They're completely different players. Nobody would sign Avery for 4 million because he's a fringe 2nd-3rd line player who is pesky but isn't really that much of a scorer. He's not a leader by any means either.

Carter got 5 million because he showed that even in a 3rd line role behind Richards and Briere he could score. It may have been a little bit of a roll of the dice for them to offer him that much, but saying that if Avery can get 4 if Carter can get 5 isn't a very good way to look at it.

If some team signs Avery for 4m, it'll automatically make the Malone contract look better in comparison.

Like I said he will definetly get 1milj "Avery show extra".
He's a spectator magnet and some guys will definetly buy ticket just to see him, I would.
I agree that he's worth of max 3milj/season if we look by the terms of scoring.

People really need to learn to read before posting. Unless I was taught some backwards form of math 48 is more than 39.

nope you're not.

but as some have pointed out on the rangers' board, there was also a huge discrepancy for the team with & w/o marek malik on the team.

take it for what it's worth.
