Wellwood is a good talent, but he's had some injury troubles. Some team will take a risk on him, it won't be us.

Even when healthy Wellwood was spending a lot of time in the pressbox last year. He's actually one of the players I thought would do very well in the new NHL. So I agree with WTK , I think someone will definitely take a chance on him.

I find it amazing how fat boys have become a problem in the league.

Ryder, Wellwood, Tkachuk.....

42 points in 48 games as a 23 year old in 06/07.....I think Toronto will end up severely regretting this when he puts up a 60 or maybe 70 point season in the next couple years

Their team is built around the only prospects of their future, Toskala, Pogge, Stralman, Kaberle, Schenn, Kulemin and Tlusty.

I don't think they'll have much of a problem on the back end, it's talented forwards they're going to need to compete in a few years.

Link please!

And giving up Wellwood is like trading Ribeiro for Niinimaa. He's gonna be a PPG player somewhere.

Wellwood is RFA this summer, so they just want to give his rights for free??

Pretty much, he'll end up as a UFA come July 1. Why place a RFA on waiver though? Why not just let his contract run until July? Are they trying to save money on one paycheque?

Not very surprised. Well maybe a little for Wellwood but if he does get picked up he better shape up if not he is done in the NHL.
