What would it take for the Habs to get him?
No big time prospects since he is UFA isn't he?

He would look good on the line:

Ryder-Koivu-Kovalev

Kovy is a UFA at seasons' end. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the Canucks, as long as the asking price isn't too steep.

To Kings: Kovalev

To Rangers: 1st round draft pick (very good chance of being a top 10 pick) + something

Hasn't been scoring but is still clearly the best player on the team. Does everything else but score goals, including defense, taking the body and backchecking, just everything except score goals!

Way too much money. At 7 million per, there are only a small handful of teams that could add that type of salary.

That's great and all but he's only owed 3.5 mill.

Rangers got him for a salary dump. Shouldnt expect much back, espcially since he has not played nearly as well since the trade.

No one does, which is why he won't be traded also the fact he's been our best player despite his lack of scoring doesn't help his cause for trade.

Caps will gladly swap Jagr for him, then let Kovalev walk at season's end. As to how much money goes the NYR's way, that's the question of the hour. The teams have been trying to agree on that for the better part of the last six months.

Satan for Kovalev. we're taking salary, so think that seems about fair.

For what 3 months? Than what? There is a very small group of teams with the money to afford Kovalev. The Rangers are better off hanging on to him.

If they're in the post-season, yes. But if they are a ways back at the trade deadline, the Rangers are better off seing if they can trade him to get something in return. If they are interested in bringing him back the next season, they can talk to him as a UFA. Like you said, not too many teams would be afford his salary for a whole year, but the Rangers are one of them.

Well you obviously don't have any idea about what the salary concerns are like in the league. People will sacrifice lesser money for lesser months for a certain player. They have flexability and are not tied to them long term. This is why a lot of last year guys are traded to playoff teams by the deadline.
