Trade proposal observations

Maybe I'm alone in this, but hear me out:

Fans of other teams know how badly our year is going (it's no secret). They see key guys (notably Smyth) struggling and having an off year.

Now here's where I'm starting to get offended:

They realize that this is just an off-year for Smyth but they assume we think his career is over. We get proposals for 8 guys drafted in the 6th round seeming like a "fair" offer. They must be thinking they can con us out of a deal because Smyth is underperforming this year. Does this frustrate anyone else?

I don't know if I'm explaining this right, but it seems like the offers are made with the idea that people think that they are smarter than us. We will be fooled into taking garbage for Smyth because of his poor numbers this year and they will laugh for years to come as he is a key player on their team.

For this very reason, I want to keep Smyth and his mullet around.

It really doesn't matter whether we are fooled, or whatever... it's Lowe that's important.

But you always want to buy low... it's a smart move. The Oilers have been doing that for years, and it's the only way you are going to really "win" a deal outright. If you get that guy at his low point and he turns it around, it's huge.

So that's why you always see fans from other teams wanting Smyth for bags of pucks, or something similar.

I tell you, I haven't been a fan of the Smyth to MTL for Milroy and Bulis and stuff like that.

What gets me about trade proposals is the draft picks to balance. I've seen guys on other boards offer 3rd Round picks in 06.

What's the deal with that?

yeah its pretty bad too even on the oilers side sometimes

all you can is make up a counter-proposal or just flame away at them

It's fun to play the "similar counter-proposal game".. For example:
Poster A offers Milroy, Bulis + 2009 7th rounder for Smyth (he has been struggling..)
I offer in return Chimera, Umicevic + 2008 6th rounder for Markov
Watch the fireworks go off..

FHL and EHM has turned every random fan into an all out GM... picks in 2006 are what you get when the GM in your league has traded all their picks in the next 2 drafts because he doesn't care about them.
