Marc Denis to Montreal?

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=241999&l...s=topStory_nhl

Gainey may bring in a veteran netminder to back up Carey Price (and Jaroslav Halak)*, and Quebec native Marc Denis' name has been circulated around the city. Denis has gone on record saying he would love the chance to play in his hometown.

* If you go to the video on the side, it says to backup both Price and Halak.. so Denis may be brought in to start the season in Hamilton with Desjardins.

I saw this yesterday and I think this is more of a dream for Denis then anything that might really happen. I do not see Denis as an improvement over Halak so not a deal worth making.

Alex Auld sounds like a better candidate to me.

Just don't see how Lalime and Aubin are improvements over Denis and Auld maybe....but not by much and only because he has more NHL experience. I also don't see any of these guys agreeing to a minor league deal...well maybe Aubin.

I'm not thrilled about this rumour. But it might not be a bad idea to bring in an experienced goalie to play with both Price and Halak. Personally if Gainey would decide to go this route, I'd like to see Cujo come here.

Halak is young and good eventually he'll want a shot ast a #1 spot and I suspect his stats will be good this year if he plays second fiddle against the Islanders, Panthers, Thrashers of this world...he'll make very good trade bait at the deadline.

Non merci. For Hamilton, sure, but not up in the NHL.

To think that Marc Denis was once considered Price-like. He was supposed to be the next in line. Boy, has he gone down fast.

I doubt Denis signs here to be #3, he must have a team that wants him as a #2.

Let's bring back Stephane Fiset while we're at it...

Halak is a great young goalie, he will do just fine as a backup with 17-22 games next year

I wouldn't mind Denis at all, especially if he were to accept some Hamilton time. I'm not a big believer in Halak, nor much of a believer in a Price-Halak tandem for an entire season. Denis is as good a candiate as any to be an inexpensive veteran 3rd string goalie, at least going into training camp.

In fact, if there was a good trade market for Halak -- like centrepiece in a deal for Stoll -- I would deal him this instant and go with Kolzig or Auld or any number of decent veteran goalies who probably wouldn't mind being a back-up but would balk at having to play in Hamilton behind both Halak and Price.

I got my share of scorns from posters when I mentioned Kolzig as a potential replacement to Huet....

I put him way ahead of Denis tho.

The only thing wrong with obtaining Kolzig was he wasn't happy being a back-up in Washington. So I don't think he'd be any happier being a back-up with the Habs, or even worse, playing in Hamilton.

Yes, but time and weaker gameplay makes the mind change... who knows.

Well if he would be willing, I think he would be the perfect choice to work with both Price and Halak. But like you said, who knows.

I would not mind giving him NHL money to play in the AHL and be there if there's a problem with Halak or Price.

But still his number in the A aren't that nice, 2,91 with a .910 save % and a 11-19-2 record...
