I approve but he better start putting the puck in the net at a 20+ goal a season pace or it will be a waste of Cap Space. Olesz is capable of doing it but actually doing it is an entirely different thing. A worth-while gamble though, IMO.

Good contract length and the cap hit isn't bad. How is the salary structured year to year?

Theres no specific details yet, but regardless I think its a good signing because Olesz improved at the end of the season and become one of our best players in the last 25 games while already being solid in the other ones. He improved his physical game and put up some good #'s. IMO for 6 years 3.8 isn't bad, I assumed 4.25 was going to be the # for this many years.

Kinda alot... Not if he pans out.. But we all know well that works out here in Florida

Hoax.. may I ask how old are you? Im asking because it seems your so young and not full of the empty promises this team has given us the last 8 or so years. I'm just surprised to see a Panthers fan who still believes in this managment

Believe or not... 4-5 years ago I was kinda like you.. all full of hope

16, been watching the panthers since '00-'01 season. I believe in THIS gm because with all the other ones I never saw an improvement in our roster, always just hopes. Our roster on paper is much better than it was. I believe in defensive hockey, you guys don't....thats really the only difference between us.

Over 3 mil per season for 6 seasons when Olesz has never scored over 30 points. Definatelly paying for "potential", risky move.

Keep the discussion on topic - discussing other HFBoards posters is not an acceptable topic, nor is it the topic of this thread.

You know Mogo, that isn't a bad analogy. Neither Dvorak or Olesz were big scorers in the Czech league and were drafted more on potential than production.

Definitely a risky one, but six more years of Olesz makes a happy Frolesz.

I think this is a great deal. It's going to look like a steal in a few years.

I agree. Very similar to Horton's deal where people were saying the same thing.

Meanwhile, Horton put up 62 points last year which is a lot more than guys like Malone (51 points = 4.5 million), Carter (53 points = 5 million) and Hartnell (43 points = 5.2 million) just to name a few recent signings.

My point is that this may be a deal that works out in our favor sooner rather than later like Horton's deal.

I'm a big supporter of resigning our own guys but I think we overpaid on this one, based on very limited production so far. I do see the talent in him but the only way he wil earn the contract is by putting up some consistent offensive numbers. This pretty much means that martin sees him as a top two line forward no matter what, you don't pay someone on our team that much to play on the bottom lines. I would have liked to see him pull what tampa is doing and try to get a head start on some of the forwards that are available because even signing Olesz does not solve the fact that we traded our best scorer and we have not added any offense at all yet. Meanwhile tampa's offense is looking more like a powerhouse. Counting on rookies to make up the goals is not very wise. If we do sign anyone it will need to be significant becasue we don't need any more third line players like the five FA's we signed last year. Rolston would have been nice.

I was so happy to see this when I loading up TSN.ca. It's definitely a step in the right direction. Olesz will only continue to get better and better

Bit of an overpayment, but I'm glad we kept him. I think his production will continue and he's already a fan favorite.

I'll preface by stating that I'm also glad we kept Olesz, but I think the MSRP was too high. So it's a little bittersweet. I was a vocal critic of Olesz beginning of last season, but he showed improvement in the two areas he still needs to improve: taking shots and taking the body.

With this deal, and the Olli trade, and the lack of a productive offensive signing (but maybe tomorrow?) - I just feel uneasy. We have great prospects, yes, but that's what they are. Prospects. I get slammed by certain posters here constantly for demanding that the Panthers put a playoff level product on the ice NOW, this season, not "probably in the future". I'm tired of talking about 3-4 years out. That's what the talk was 3-4 years ago!!! Time's up fellas. It's show me the money time. Yet, this roster continues to be unconvincing on paper. So many immature (Matthias, Frolik, Stewart, or equivalents) and half-mature (Weiss, Horton, Olesz, Booth) players have to become fully mature by the time camp is over. It's a high risk situation.

Touch of overpayment ,but that's what you get when you have a min. salary cap of 41 mil. and signing a guy to a six year contract

+ To our P.K. for the future
+ To our second PP. unit, I'd like to see him there for the next couple years
+ More long-term stability with players who have been drafted by this organization, which everyone is overlooking here.

- Injury prone, hate to say it...but he's got to be in the lineup for 70+ games hurt or not. Injured, well that's a different story .

- He could still be about two years away from what we project him out to be. If he continues to grow his game with Horton/Weiss ,and eventually Frolik/Matthias/Repik/McCardle.
