MacIntyre fits the profile the Preds have been talking about the past few weeks -- a solid veteran presence with a background of success in the AHL to bolster the team's depth in net. Very similar to the role Dan Ellis was signed to fill last summer.
"We were looking for the best available goaltender to be a No. 1 guy in Milwaukee and provide depth and minutes," goaltending coach Mitch Korn said. "In conversations with Drew, I really liked his goaltending philosophies and the attitude he displayed. He's played a little bit in the NHL with Vancouver, so if we need a recall we have a comfort level there."
Expected to be the No. 3 guy in the organization with Dekanich as No. 4.
Goaltending depth chart is set:
1) Dan Ellis
2) Pekka Rinne
3) Drew MacIntyre
4) Mark Dekanich
That's great. We can always use more goal scorers.
On February 20, 2008, MacIntyre scored the game-winning overtime goal on a delayed penalty when Steve Martens of the Chicago Wolves missed his pass, and the puck proceeded to hit the empty net. MacIntyre, being the last Moose player to touch the puck, was credited with the goal.
I don't think we could have realistically asked for a better goaltender to play in Milwaukee this year. This is a great pickup on paper at least. He's still pretty young and he's got great numbers in the AHL.
I thought Sabourin would've been a great veteran presence and mentor for Dekanich, but hey, I have no problem with MacIntyre. If his numbers are any indicator he should be a solid starter for the Ads. A downgrade from Rinne, sure, but just about anybody we pick up would fit that description.
