Malone's Ominous signing

Anyone worried about Malone's signing? I see that he might be gone to Tampa for 7 years, around 30 million. If a dude like that gets that deal...are we looking at an insane market starting Tuesday? Think we'll shell out 78 million over four years for Campbell now?

If you want decent players you have to overpay on the UFA market.

You want to buy low, but that means we will get garbage.

i dont consider redden and ryder garbage....they had off years.....

rolston would be cheaper as well due to his age and IMO stuart will get 3.8 which isnt bad for a player of his skillset.....i dont mean sign miettenen or someone like that, just dont go for the players with all the hype....

Yeah I see what you mean but I think we won't be getting Campbell if we get Hossa, What do you think of resigning Hutchinson? Best defenseman in the Ahl maybe let Sanguinetti get a shot although from what I read it doesn't seem likely bobby is ready

Tampa's sorta handcuffed themselves, for when Malone starts breaking down 3 years from now. Very happy to hear Sather no longer has the temptation =]

Not worried at all. 7 yr. $31M = about $4.4M per year. I thought he'd get more than that.

I totally Agree , that would be a good day...............Especially on D, Redden and Orpik make the Rangers D good to great

Rolston plays on a Gomez line with Dawes and assuming Jagr comes back Satan plays with Dubinsky

Then Drury gets Prucha and Callahan...........done and done

Is anybody actually suprised at some of these numbers? This is what's going to happen given the cap space available, along with the cap moving up so much.

I'm kind of more surprised at the years now. I mean, this is a guy who barely hit 50 points playing with you know who. I'm not sure he'll even be a 45 point player during those years.

If Malone got 4.5 million for his production, then Avery surely isn't insane wanting 4 million.

Feaster/Melrose have already said they will reunite the MVP line, so it looks like Malone will play with Stamkos.

Yeah, it almost forces me to re-evaluate my position on signing Avery at 4 mill per year. Almost, but not quite.

The risk is in years not average dollars. I though Malone would be closer to $5MM albeit not as long a term. That was certainly part of the Flyers strategy last year.

Guys like Nagy, Hagman, Meittinen, Williams, Vrborny, Vrbata, Brunette, etc.. might not break the bank but supply Gomez or Drury with the type of winger they need.

You dont need to get the flashy name or the guy that supposedly is the perfect fit for the team for you to get the job done.

They could always opt to sign no one , tank it, and go for the #1 pick next year?

How much do you think Redden will go for?

He will easily be getting over 5.5 million.

Ryder I wouldnt even pay 3 million for, he is a lazy player.

Or we can tank for three straight seasons and get 3 #1's

Worked for another team that I can't quite put my finger on

Most of those guys you named will be overpaid.

Put a bunch of average players together without any thought and you end up with a team like the Islanders at the bottom of the league.

Nobody said anything about a flashy name, but you pay more for peices you think will work with the team.
