The Flames biggest need is a strong year from Kipper and you don't trade or sign a free agent for that.

1. Top six forward - As it stands right now our second line is Boyd, Lombardi and Moss. We're in a world of hurt if that turns out to be our second line come October.
2. Top six defenseman - I don't see the need for a puck mover. Phaneuf's fully capable of it, plus adding Giordano into the mix, we look fine there. We just need someone to round out the top six. Phaneuf, Regehr, Aucoin, Sarich, Giordano then who? Pardy? What if that doesn't work out? Pelech? Is he ready? Eriksson? Please no... Some names to think about are Jason Smith, Dmitri Kalinin, Kurt Sauer, Bryce Salvador etc.

Adding grit and leadership. "Puck-moving defensemen" or "goal-scorer" sounds so hollow. The team needs to add depth and character to the lineup.

Since Sutter plays it so close to the vest, the rumors seldom turn out to be true. However, if Darcy Tucker and Jason Smith become Flames, it would give the team a big kick in the pants. Tucker would replace Huselius, and Smith would replace the role of Warrener/Vandermeer. The second line RW job is still open, with Nolan possibly ready to re-up for another year.

An infusion of youth will be worked into the lineup (Boyd, Prust, and maybe Pardy at #7 d-man) with increased responsibility from Lombardi, Nystrom, Moss & Giordano. It wouldn't be any shock for another trade to announced later today as well.

Hollow?? Did you watch the playoffs and our top dmen such as Regehr, Sarich, Aucion and Hale unable to get the puck out of the zone? They're slow so they pass instead of taking the puck out of the zone. We need well-skating and puck-moving top4 dman.
