How much would YOU pay Hossa?

In response to the topic on Team 1260, this is a very interesting thing to discuss. Free agency is a way to rebuild your team by overpaying but how much would you overpay?

I agree but with him being an UFA there is no way he is going for less then 8.5 imo.

I would offer him $9/season for 3 years so a 3 year $27 million dollar contract. If he wants a long term deal, I would only offer him a average of $7.5 to $8 a season. Heck, I would offer him a front loaded contract on a long term deal(in his first couple of years, he would get $9 million but as he gets older, he would only get 6/7 million)

*the offer maybe a lot but I'm going based on, EDM would have to over pay to get a elite player theory

If he wants a NMC, I would ask him to take less money. Also would only give it to him for the first 3 years and anything after, the NMC would be gone.

I think some teams would be able to pay him around 7.25-7.75 to get him but for the Oilers to get him it would take 8.25-9 on top of him wanting to play here. Anyways, in response to the question Hossa is a superstar and i'd be willing to pay 8.25 M for him.

Hossa is a RW, can he play LW at all?

Hossa-Horcoff-Hemsky would be sweet.

I've been wondering the same thing.

They'd be the H3 - Hummer line

What would Darryl Katz pay is the question.

He's being introduced to the Edmonton sports media tomorrow morning at a press conference. A big name player like Hossa would solidify his godly Batman reclusiveness.

He will be getting more than one offer in the 7 year 56 million range. If you want him it will have to be more than that. And not just a little more. Think in terms of 7 years 63 mill.

$9.5 million.

If you have to get under the cap, you trade Horcoff, Roloson, Torres, etc for draft picks. Even seventh round picks, I'm not even joking. No disrespect to those guys but with Hossa the Oilers are a playoff team.

I say 9 million. Why? Sometimes you have to overpay to get something elite.

That, and Katz wants to land a big fish and is willing to spend. If you look at Katz's business history - he eventually gets what he wants.

Bob McCown has said publicly that Hossa to Edmonton is a lock. Confirmed by Strachen for what its worth. But who knows, it will all be sorted out soon enough.

8.5 million although if it does take 9 I could live with it.

I voted 7 mill because that's about what's he's worth and in a perfect world the Oilers could sign him for that much but that won't happen.

There will be teams offering over 8 million for sure. If I'm Kevin Lowe I wouldn't go higher than 8 to 8.3 or 8.4 million. Everything over 8.5 million is ridiculous. In my opinion he's not even worth 8 million but the Oilers will have to overpay no matter who they get in free agency.

Lets say Oilers signed Hossa at $9 mil a season. Do you think this was a offer by Lowe or more of a Katz telling Lowe to offer this deal to Hossa's agent?

Lets say the reports were coming out that it was Katz wanting Hossa at any cost but the reports were still questionable. Do you think Lowe still gets bashed?

Yeah I just heard that about 20 minutes ago on the Team 1260.

How can it be a lock?? How do they know? And if it was a lock wouldn't it be announced, like on TSN or Sportsnet??

I find it really hard to believe. Sounds like something Eklund would say.

If it's publically stated that Katz wanted him at any price I doubt it, especially if Katz says it in person to the media. If that's the case I think people might get on Katz's back but that's just me.

Katz is smart enough to buy the team internally so he's definately smart enough to ask scouts about their opinions about Hossa and they will definanetly tell him that a 9 is north of what he's worth.

Well, if Katz admits it then obviously, Lowe wouldn't get bashed but lets say the reports were from Eklund or Kipreos.

2 years/18M

Gives the team cap flexibility when Gagner and Cogliano's contracts are up. Also ends when Pisani's, Moreau's and Torres's contracts expire. Although we'd have a skeleton roster at the end, it would gives us a lot of flexibility.

The Oilers themselves would not be allowed to announce it until 8AM Mountain time tomorrow. But if they know the sources, the ones that somehow know what's on the go - it's not inconceivable it's all but done.

LMAO then I doubt it. For many reasons but one being that not everyone listens to or knows Eklund or even Nick Kipreous for that matter...
