Oh, the rollercoaster ride that is the Edmonton Oilers.
Three short years ago, the team sent fans to dizzying heights with a stunning playoff Cup run. The team relied on one elite player, several players outperforming their contracts, and several shrewd trades by Kevin Lowe to secure missing pieces to the puzzle.
Flash forward one year. After a disastrous summer in which Pronger asked to be traded, the team tanked. From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. What a miserable season to watch. Remembering the threads on here cheering for an Oilers loss is amusing but painful at the same time.
The offseason that year was filled with tension - Lowe promised big things, and fans were expecting big things. What happened was a compromise. The season to follow would be best summarized in one word: recovery.
So, on the eve of this offseason, the team is once again poised to do something big. Only this time, Lowe is surprisingly quiet. I think we've witnessed the growth of our GM.
And hopefully, we'll witness the greatness of our team, again, very, very soon.

well, at the very least, the last three years have been anything but boring.

I think any optimism of expecting "big things" needs to be tempered with the reality that very few "big deals" are made every year and that Lowe is not the type to rush into anything unless he really feels good about it. I have no doubt he will be trying to do something big, but most of the time these things fall though. Any optimism should be guarded at this point IMHO.
Colour me a little surprised that it's the mod creating a new thread.
And, I gotta say it Cloned, it's pretty much a fluff post.
I've never understood this:
Why do some people get their panties in such a bunch over threads getting made? I can understand the horrendous one, but from the way some people around here talk, it'd be better if we had one giant thread for all things Oiler...

Three years ago we were still wondering if we were going to have an 05-06 NHL season, and Brewer, York, Semenov, and Rita were still Oilers

Wasn't that just 2 years ago or do we count the agony that was 06-07 as 2?

True dat!!! It's as if some posters have OCD and ADD and that they want every thread that was made the day prior to be on the front page the next day, and if they have to click the little 2 icon and look on the 2nd page, it ruins their ****ing day.
Dumb posts, or posts that say the exact same thing need to be ****-canned, but the rest??? Seriously what's the great big freaking deal???
I'd prefer multiple threads (big surprise eh???) than 29 pages where you have to sort through garbage and have the potential to miss potentially key details.

I said you got your panties in a bunch. Did you or did you not?
Wait a second... are you saying that your panties are in a knot because you think my panties are in a knot?

Then I went and said I can understand complaining about the ridiculous ones.
Where's the strawman? Did he become invisible when I made a tongue in cheek comment about a massive thread?
Right here:

Yes, we'd all be better off with just a single thread on this board for everything. You're totally right, I've seen people suggesting it all day today. You certainly have a keen eye for detail.
