wonder who the Caps will turn to now, since Kolzig's already left town?

Got to give them credit - I was just reading rumors on Sportsnet, and this morning the Edmonton Journal had said a deal was close to ship Pitkanen out of town, speculating Carolina as the target and saying it was possibly for Erik Cole.

Clearly their media is connected and got a tip that they couldn't reveal. Wish our guys were like that - instead we get Biggane. No offense to GR, but he only gets the news when it's a done deal. He needs to go romance JM's secretary or something

That would assume that have the capacity for thought. That franchise is worse off than we are right now ..

I have this calm before the storm feeling. Something I had when Jokinen was traded but this feels bigger. I'm pretty sure JM is getting a few phone calls right now.

Where's GR today, anyway? He should be in the Panthers' main offices, sneaking up on JM disguised as a potted rubber tree in order to eavesdrop on trade talk and calls to the agents of available players. I'll bet instead he's somewhere watching a baseball game drinking beer and pretending to work.

We may need another "George Richards is a fat lazy idiot" thread to get his attention - our version of the Bat-signal

Yeah, well we clearly have more than enough money to sign Bouwmeester, but apparently a deal isn't even close and JM says there's no timetable to getting him signed, of course not, a young no.1 defensemen potential superstar for many years, but I guess we'll just let it ride out and see what happens...

You beat me to it RtN ...

That's an awful lot of offense for them now ... They still don't have a D though and how can they keep Boyle's contract now?

Well, I didn't call him fat and lazy in the orginal thread...

Anyway, I hear he's on vacation. Probably JM gave him the inside dope that the only dope inside was himself during the free agency period! JM I mean, not GR.

Tampa sign Radim Vrbata at around 3M$ per year. Pretty nice for a guy who had 29 goals last season. I'm happy we didnt sign him, I mean we got Peltonen to play 1rst line

I guess this means Rolston is not going to Tampa, but the rumor is that he didn't want to sign there because he wants to go to an area with good junior hockey for his kids. So I don't think he wants to come here either.

It's doubtful they've locked him up for more than a couple of years, though. Olesz was overpaid to get him to sign long-term. Vrbata's an older player looking to sell his services short-term so he can keep getting lucrative contracts.

Still, there must have been a motivation for him to take less than one would figure the market on his talents it, and it's doubtful that motivation would have existed for any team besides Tampa.

Good. Kolzig sucks. If they think they will solve their goaltending situation by signing Kolzig, then whatever their smoking, I want some.

Didn't this Board at one time have a member who had a connection to the Panthers GM in a similar fashion?

I wonder who we'll pick up this year..

Maybe..

Trevor Letowski? He was a Panther killer. Good for another 4-5 goals

Apparently Huselius is close to signing in Pitts, but yeah I'm sure Pittsburgh needs more offense as compared to some other teams in the NHL (ex. florida)

Cujo signs 1 year deal with leafs

The only one I can think of with an inside connection was someone who made grandiose claims of insider knowledge, but he never leaked anything of use - he just vehemently defended every move Cohen made.
