From Zipay:

No major deals yet...Rangers are apparently in on Orpik as well...The 6-foot-4 Voros, by the way, was the Masterton nominee by the Wild hockey writers for his battle to recover from a cancerous lump behind his knee five years ago in Alaska. He made $495,000 last season. My guess is that he'll compete for a fourth-line spot and Sjostrom moves up...

according to every paper everywhere the rangers are in on every free agent ever available.

If youre not sure who is going to go where, just throw the rangers into the mix and everyone will believe you.

Yeah, I'm actually surprised when we aren't listed as a possible destination for a player.

i like the signing....

seems like a big winger who will get his nose dirty.....sounds like the exact player i wanted(torres) to play with drury because he works well with a bigger body.....not a blockbuster, however this could turn out well...30-40 points plus toughness and willingness to fight would be a good addition IMO

You hope to get, say, a Vrbata for $3MM and he is the guy he was last season, not the rest of his career. Few teams do very well without taking some chances like this. The Rangers did it with Gomez and Drury. They paid up for Lundqvist to lock him up. Are they now expected to round out a team with third and fourth liners to avoid 'overpaying' for a player or two? Gotta bite the bullet to build a team, and someone's going to figure out some negative slant to it, but it's gotta be done.
Just because you are $20M under the cap doesn't mean that you need to spend $20M to remain competitive. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet, give those players in your organization a chance and wait for the next year's crop to find a player that will "fit" better.

Signing a top player and crippling your team for the next 7 years is not smart. All these top free agents want the long term deals. I'd be willing to "overpay" for Sundin who would be here a year or two then gone.

The successful teams have built from within and enhanced their team with a free agent or two. We already have 2 guys chewing up $14. Add another 2 (ie Campbell Hossa) at $7M a year each? That's irresponsible.

That is my view on how we should do things.

Regarding my initial comment, All I'm saying is if everyone wants these guys so bad then don't complain a year from now about the money we are paying them. It's the "open market".

agreed.....i find it funny how so many people think it was horrible to sign gomez and drury to their contracts yet when the same thing is happening this year people want more of the same.....cant have both people....i will be fine with a couple of smaller signings and see where they take us

Missed out? It that's true, it's great news. The last thing we need is to overpay for a defensive liability.

Sounds like it is true...7.1 per/8 years... I'm sooooo glad we missed out!

agreed. I love tough guys, but not resigning Avery makes us just as soft as last yr.

I'm glad too. I was just making a joke that Slats couldn't seal the deal because he was too busy with Voros.

here?

Rozsival turned down an offer believed to be in the $4 million per range midway through last season. He then proceeded to have a subpar second half after piling up goals through the first 40 games. While free agency held out the promise of bigger money, Rozsival simply had no desire to move himself or his family out of town.
that's not what it says.
