question about Tanguay

I can't find any info on when was the last time Tanguay played center.

Thinking if Gainey lands Hossa, can Tanguay play center??
This could be Gainey's plan B.

He already played center? It was maybe in juniors.

I think he may have been tried at center by the Flames before.

Higgins is more likely to be moved at C if the Habs sign a winger, IMHO. You could have something like K-P-K, Tanguay-Koivu-UFA, Latendresse-Higgins-Kostitsyn, Begin-Lapierre-Kostopoulos.

When they asked Tanguay if he can play center on CKAC, Tanguay said he can play on both wing but he CAN'T play center. He didn't regulary played center since almost 10 years.

Moving wingers to center does not fix our faceoff problem.

I don't think he ever played center in the NHL. How can he, with the Avs, with Sakic, Forsberg, Drury, Yelle at center? Interesting to see Hockeydb say is a center and Drury a LW. Do you think NYR will try him on wing next year?

I think it's a idea to try him on center at camp, but it's not the same thing be a good winger and be a good center. Not a lot of winger became center and are effective. I remember Damphousse, but who else?

Yeah if Koivu lost that faceoff in game 1 vs Philly with under 1 minute left in the third Kovalev obviously would've still scored if Philly had the puck.

No, they really are. Not to say they aren't important, but at the same time they aren't a huge, crucial factor in winning games. The difference between a good faceoff guy and a bad faceoff guy is 55% to 45%, and the effect of losing a faceoff is overstated because individual instances of important faceoffs leading to key results stick out im memory. Statistically, faceoff % has a low correlation to winning games.

In practice, too, whenever really important faceoffs happen you systematically use your best guy, especially if he's a guy who is reliable defensively like Koivu -- so the impact of the worst guy on faceoffs is lessened. In some cases you can use the better faceoff guy for the faceoff and change him immediately. This isn't a case where you're only as strong as your weakest link -- with good coaching you can shield your weakest faceoff guy.
