But thank go we re-signed Lapierre! Because 4th line centres are so hard to find in the league or in our system!

I hope Savard and Ryder click and he gets 30+ next year.

We better hope Kovalev shows up and so do Pleks and Andrei, not to mention Tanguay. If not it will be a long season in Montreal.

I would bet a lot of money it was Burke. Totally a Burke type thing to say.

Well deserved money to a scorer, Boston will use him properly and their PP will be good with him on it and the league assist leader in Savard will be setting him up nightly!

Another Hab coming back to haunt the Habs...I think so!

Congrats Ryder! Thanks for your service and best of luck in Beantown!
I don't think you have ever seen Ryder play have you. I say that because if you had and you weren't blind, you would notice he isn't a very good hockey player. Not that he couldn't score, but that he didn't do ANYTHING else!

they had expectations that Ryder would score goals in the playoffs, not goose eggs.

Yup. Couldn't agree more.

Sundin or Hossa or even Jagr...aside from that, do nothing. We already have a full roster anyway. I know half of this board has this obsession with getting a #4 D to complete the Hamrlik pairing, but if O'Byrne doesn't progress during the season, a #4 D can be acquired in season at the deadline for a reasonable cost (see Brad Stuart).

What does signing a 4th line center have to do with giving Michael Ryder 4 million per season?

Other questions that demand answers:

Why is Sergei Kostitsyn a puke?
Why do you think there's a risk of 3 of our best offensive players going into slumps and causing a first place team to fall out of the playoff picture?

And most importantly, why is a Habs fan sporting a Bruins avatar?

i realize that. I dont like the signing. hell i would have rather given that money to avery. But i think if anyone can bring him back to goal scoring (since many of you said he was a sniper) it is savard.

I like Ryder, I wish him success, he was unfairly bashed in Montreal. But then again, so is almost every player, look no further than what some people are saying about Higgins.

He's not a Habs fan. He's a bitter Ryder fan. If there's one thing I can't stand it's posters who overlavish their favourite player and then get touchy when people attack them. What are you, the guy's cousin or agent? Then shut the **** up already. It's a team. Imagine thedamned if/when Kovy is gone. When the adored guy goes, they get all hissy and say "You'll be sorry, bwahahah!" There might have been Ribeiro guys like this, but Ribs never looked as bad as Ryder has. He was a salary dump or a morale move. Ryder just played like a bum, so we cut him loose and somehow he ended up with a king's ransom. Good for him. I'm not regretful in the least. So Re-Habs can go enjoy life as a Bruin fan if he somehow hates the Habs for letting him walk for a ludicrous contract. Oh poor Michael so hard done by. Newfie Racism I tells ya! (it's why we gave up on Langdon doncha know).

P.S. Did he call Kostitsyn a puke? Kosty at 20 is a budding offensive dynamo. He's on track to be more complete than Ryder consider Mikey was an ECHL toiler at that age. Credit him with making the NHL, but he never has been any great shakes. Only in his rookie year did he look like a great star in the making.

Basicly the Bruins are paying Ryder 4 millions next season while we've just replaced him with Tanguay for an extra million

And ya, after reading a few more of his posts on the subject it seems he's more of a Ryder fan than a Habs fan.

Good lord, 4 mil for that stiff? Althought I do think he'll get his 30 goals if he plays with Savard.

I just hope they don't mind the -20 that comes along with it.

We are talking about Ryder, why you have to put other name in the conversation? Is that the only way to defend your beloved Ryder?

And what did S. Kost. did that make you hate him that much. After he got call up with the Habs, the team was a much better team. That kid show a lot more desire and emotion than Ryder. There is absolutely no reason to hate him.

OK, Gainey avoided paying more than $8M for Ryder and Streit combined, although he took on Tanguay's salary. Now what? He hasn't solved the center problem and the Habs seem to be lacking in depth at this point--that is, quality depth. Does he intend re-signing Smolinski? Is that the best he can do? And will Dandenault be the 7th defenseman? Will Brisebois still be around?
