It's all good now, but when the Oilers "stars on ice" are putting up big numbers, I hope we are not inundated with a bunch of sobbing, wailing and finger pointing at Sutter or Keenan.

This team brought in Tanguay looking for that kind of "fix" and we all saw how that turned out. This team is going in the direction of defence first. At least it is if you analyze the players they are bringing in.

There are a lot of people on here who will lament the direction this team is going. The thing I will be focused on, is the gaa. I don't care what the Oilers are able to score. We tried that route and found it wanting. Character, grit and toughness is the direction. If that isn't acceptable, I hope you jump ship now rather than whine for the whole season.

Glad to have him on the flames. He makes our bottom six much better.I think its entirely possible he could improve on last years numbers on a line with Conroy and Bourque/Moss.

I know oil fans will play down this signing but it doesn't matter to me.We've upgraded alot in the grit, youth and speed department.

The rumoured terms are 3 years/$3.2 million. About $900,000 per season, that's great value for someone like Glencross.

So what is it? 3,2 million a year or 3.2 million for the entire 3 year deal?

It would be $3.2 million over 3 years. $3.2 million per would be insane.

Agreed. That's what I'm worried about, although it is insane like doubling Vandermeer's money to 2.3 million per year for 3 years.

I like that our checking lines are younger, faster, more physical and can each score 10 goals and I like the fact that we are going back to a defensive system because physicality and defensive hockey is what this team is all about. I can't, however, tell you how many times I was frustrated last year with their inability to play good defense.

The only thing that concerns me with Sutter (other than his drafting record) is that I don't want this team to be a recreation of the 2006 team. We had Huselius and Tanguay with the stiffiling defense and still couldn't muster any offense to get out of the first round. I think Cammalleri will adequately replace one of Tanguay or Huselius' numbers and I like the fact that Giordano is back to provide more offense, speed, skill and mobility from the point but I would hate to lament all year about this team's inability to score goals (much like the Canucks last year). I just wish Darryl could find a happy medium.

I for one will be calling him Cory for obvious reasons. And like the Oilers are about to find out, you just can't replace him.

It wasn't long ago that GlenX couldn't crack the Bluejackets' lineup! He was expendable in Edmonton with their depth but he'll get a good shot in a depleted Flames' lineup. He has potential but it is unlikely that he'll score 20 goals, even if he plays third line minutes like in Edmonton!

UPDATE: The report was close, but just a little bit off. Glencross will get $3.6 million over the three years.

Nice job by Sutter once again. Glencross may have played over his head last year as I don't expect as many goals. Still though he is a speedy, physical guy who is perfect for our 3rd and 4th lines. If he can chip in with the odd goal too that would just be gravy. Definetly not expecting 20 goals from him. Really like what Sutter has done to our bottom six.

And lets all agree to never use the nickname GlenX.

Am I the only one that actually likes "GlenX"? Honestly, I think it's pretty creative... even if it was made by Grease fans.

As an Oiler fan I liked Glencross. And I'd have had no problem with Lowe anteing up a few bucks to keep this guy if it weren't for the fact we're loaded with guys who are kind of over priced but bring some intangible value. Guys like Moreau, Pisani, and Staios all make good money for role players.

I don't think it'd have been wise to pay him in the 1+million dollar range that he apparently was pushing for.

Did Lowe not want to pay Curtis the 950k he was looking for or did he want more from the Oilers?

I don't mind it, to be honest. Let us two use it anyways!

I saw the lines you drafted up in another post and I pretty agree with your takes, that's how I see it. We think alike.

According to Glencross, from an article in the Calgary Herald today:

Quote:
"There was nothing going on at all (in the way of negotiations with the Oilers)," explained the 25-year-old Provost product, who receives a three-year pact worth $3.6 million with the Flames. "(Agent David Kaye and Glencross) assumed we'd be re-signing with the Oilers, but they waited until July 1 (to resume talks)."

We already have a Curtis in goal and dumped another one so as to not have too many Curtis.

I don't like the name Glen on a hockeyplayer. As a Swede I strongly feel Glen is only fit for a footballer.

That leaves Cross and there's only one Cross in hockey and his name is Cory. A legend in his own way. You may be familiar with the saying "You just don't replace a Cory Cross."

So obviously Curtis Glencross has to be named Cory.

Makes sense, though to be honest "Cory" makes me think of Sarich. Meh, to each his own but without a doubt "Cory" is far better then "GlenX".

Damn I hadn't thought of Sarich as a Cory

But I just call him Sarich. Sort of like Madonna. To me he's just Sarich
