The Devils have revamped their forwards and it looks to me like most of their fans think Gionta is the odd man out and their best trading chip in the search for an upgrade to their defense. Tyutin is perfect for them, and Gionta being reunited with Gomez would be perfect for us.
I understand the chances of this happening in actuality are ZERO, but I think it's a deal that makes sense for both teams.

why do people insist on moving Tyutin.... he is actually very valuable.... AND HE IS OUR BEST HITTING DMAN.
I don't insist on moving Tyutin, but I do recognize the fact that he is valuable and that his value can be used to address the team's needs. Also, you mention that he is our best HITTING defenseman. That is meaningless, imo, as I would say he's our 4th best defenseman overall. You have to give to get.
I dont have my media guide in front of me right now, but if I remember correctly the last time those 2 organizations worked out a deal it was for Barry Beck, and the Devils were still the Colorado Rockies.

He's also our most appealing d-man not named Staal, Redden or Rozsival. What makes him valuable to us makes him valuable to other teams as well. He also has a higher cap hit than Girardi, which makes him more of a target.
Personally, I don't think the Debbies do a trade with us. I could see Tyutin being moved for a Wolski, Vermette or Cheechoo before we started sniping away more of the Devils roster.
I wouldn't count us out of the Hossa chase just yet either. I think Slats has something up his sleeve.
Something Zipay said in his blog this AM that made me wonder if Rosie was signed only to move him:

who will be way overpaid by desperate teams who need to reach the cap floor of $40 million. Remember Souray last season?
A lot of teams could use a half-way decent offensive d-man, and there are plenty of teams out there with the cap room to take him. Columbus? LA? Phoenix? SJ?
no, we dont need any more wingers that are smaller than 5 feet. and Tyutin i believe has more value to NJ than Gionta has to us.
I think that says it best! Already Drury, Dawes, Gomez, possibly Cally, all potentially top 6 wingers this season. Add Pru who is 6ft, but what 170lbs or so? We might have some speed, but overall, that is a very small top 6. I truly think the Rangers will try to add some size up front today, or sometime before the season starts.

Done. Although as most of you know, I'm a huge Gionta fan.
this is one of those times where i really wish we went out and a player like ryan smyth last summer..... but i dont think i would give up either drury or gomez for him.
Here is a trade that would make some type of sense for both teams.
Chicago - Patrick Sharp cap of $3.9
Rangers - Girardi and a 2nd or 3rd rnder
chicago needs to shed some salary to get under the salary cap as they $4mil over right now. they get a good young dman in Girardi who has a small cap hit. $1.5 i think for the next 2 yrs.
We get a good young (26) player who is over 6 foot and can score. he put in 36 goals last year. he is also signed to a reasonable contract for the next 4 yrs.
