We don't *really* need to bring in another center. It would be awesome, but not necessary. Plus we can always add during the year and at the deadline.

Didn't Yzerman play on the 3rd line? Messier too on his 2nd stint with NY?

Then he'll be gone next season and free up 4M on the cap for a player who is ready to play for the team.

I'd expect Saku to play with renewed vigour now that he has a legitimate shot at the cup and outplay Plekanec for the second line centre position.

With all that has happened with Mats is it time to think of this.

If Mats simply returns to the Leafs in a few weeks than was all of this just a Leaf plot, a trojan horse for the Habs all along?

Something cooked up in the back room to distract Gainey from landing a good player.

What's in it for the Leafs?

With their current rosters the two teams should not be anywhere near each other in the standings.

My mother won't go anywhere near sushi, but I love it.

I can't imagine Sundin can find passion anywhere like Montreal. Looks like the CBA and all else works in our favor.

Gotta beat Detroit though. That's the key. Vancouver won't.

But can we do it?? Yes! With a trade deadline acquistion...

and...

and...

Now that the Habs have one less center this thread gets a *bump*

Fair to say Grabovski was likely the comp for Sundin's rights; that didn't work out so they came to an agreement on a different deal. TOR really wanted the little dude !

I wonder what, if anything, Gainey is cooking, or if he is commited to waiting on Sundin.

I think Sundin is just waiting for all the teams to give up on him so he can return to Toronto

Well there's one less RFA to negociate salary with, I think Bob's going for broke and holding onto his $$$. It looks like Detroit and the Rangers are out, Vancouver you can forget about..... Montreal still looks like an attractive option and the cash is still there.

RFAs still pending are Halak, Gorges & O'Byrne, none of whom are likely to earn a fat raise (though a one-way contract for Halak ought to be worth something more than his current salary).

Would Mats settle for 7 million? Will the Habs have the room?

If he waits, that means he knows something about Sundin that most don't know.

I think maybe Sundin wants to sign, and maybe has already chosen Montreal, but wants the hype to die down a bit and make Leaf fans think he didn't know what he wanted to do, so they'll be more in an accepting mood when he will sign with the Habs, as the Habs will probably be the only team left with good talent and cap space.

Just a theory.

They could always give the boot to Dandy and replace him with either Daggs or Stewart. This would leave a bit more than a mil of free space, all depending on what type of boot they use on Dandy.

With Naslund signing in NY, this means Montreal is the only choice for Sundin in the east unless he wants to go back to TO and play for a crappy team.

With Jagr imitating Sundin, as he is also undecided, this means we have good chances of landing one of them before training camp.

Could someone confirmed that Mtl offered 15 millions for two years to Sundin. A guy I work with told me he heard that on a radio show this morning. He told me it was on CKOI or ENERGIE...

Does any one else heard that ?

Thx

Okay so lets look at the teams left that can afford Sundin.

Anaheim : No money for him
Atlanta : Not a contender
Boston : Not necessarely contenders but Sundin can help them. Not to sure about their budget though
Buffalo : Not a contender
Carolina : Not a contender
Calgary : I doubt he goes this far from Toronto
Chicago : No money for him
Colorado : Not a contender
Columbus : Not a contender
Dallas : I doubt he goes this far from Toronto
Detroit : No money, No room
Edmonton : The team has changed alot and they were gunning for Hossa, why not try Sundin as plan B.
Florida : Not a contender
Los Angelas : Not a contender
Montreal : Interest is there
Minnesota : I beleive they have the caproom and a spot for him since they lack centers
Nashville : Not a contender
New Jersey : I don't believe they have the budget
New York Islanders : Not a contender
New York Rangers : No money, No room
Ottawa : No money at the moment they have to worry about locking up their RFAs
Philidelphia : Their GM said they were done and they allready have Briere and Richards
Pheonix : Not a contender
San Jose : I doubt he goes this far from Toronto
St-Louis : Not a contender
Tamoa Bay : No money
Toronto : Not a contender but still a chance
Vancouver : Not a contender
Washington : Not necessarely a contender

I don't see many teams that are able to fit him in their line-up other then us. I think it's either us, Toronto or retirement.
