Confirmed: Glencross Signed

COming from another board. Take it for a grain of salt. Rumor that Glencross has been signed and new will be released tomorrow morning.

Once again...a long shot rumor at this point. But a rumor none the less.

From CP.

If this is true, great signing. Another good guy to have in the bottom six. I'm liking it.

Yeah, if this does turn out to be true, you won't hear me complaining.

Interesting. I'll wait for it to be official before I get to excited though. Either way it looks like Sutter is really improving our bottom six. Conroy, Moss, Bourque, Primeau, Nystrom, Prust, VDG, Greentree, and now maybe Glencross fighting for a spot on the team. Lots of speed and competition is never a bad thing.

Not good enough for me, unfortunately. We can revisit this if it turns out to be true, but until then, "some guy on CP" isn't a good enough source.

I guarantee you, Greentree will not be in the Flames lineup anytime soon. He is minor league fodder, a warm body for Quad City. Prust, Van Der Gulik, even Chucko have a better chance at making it than him.

Sutter is doing some great things, imagine a third line of:

Borque - Conroy - Glencross

I like this one!

Awesome news. If those numbers turn out to be true, it is another great signing by Sutter.

Re-signing Vandermeer is also good news to me, although this most probably means, that we won't see Jason Smith with the Flames.

Good signing. We have needs on the 2nd line, but considering the economics of the FA market and our own team I like the fact we around trying to force someone in that spot for more money than they are worth for too many years. Young, cheap, safe, I like this.

Vandermeer is a good bottom pairing guy too, we're doing okay.

I have to give Sutter credit for improving our checking lines. For years this team has had old vets produce little and bring no energy or physical presence on the bottom 2 lines with guys like Friesen, Yelle (although I like him), Nilson, etc. With young, fast and big, physical guys like Nystrom, Bourque, Glencross and Moss the Flames have much better, younger checking lines and I expect all these guys to pot 10 goals next year. I still whih that softy Primeau and his inflated salary were out of here, but he's a Sutter favourite and he won't go anwhere unfortunately.

Resigning Vandy will probably cost them a million and is a decent move, as he'll have to handle the division's goons like Parker, Boogaard and now Hordichuk.

And a big hell no to Jason Smith. Although he's better, we don't need another Rhett Warrener contract weighing us down.

Given that the Calgary Sun again mentioned today we're close to signing Nolan, this team will look remarkably similar to last year. However, we've lost some big time scorers and not replaced them with much firepower other than Cammalleri. However, the checkers are much better and most of the dead wood on defense should be gone by october. I think the flames will tighten up their defense and bring down their GAA per game and also score more as a whole with more capable guys on the bottom 2 lines putting the puck in. I also think we'll finally be a more physical, aggressive and tight forechecking team with our muckers as they are now. If only we can get another goal scorer.

Congrats on this pickup, for just over $1million you've got yourself a real interesting player who at absolute worst is one of the top 4th line energy guys around, at best...who knows, 20 goal scorer + with some incredible speed and toughness.

Good signing by Sutter, especially since Glencross always seemed to burn us. He'll be a good bottom 6 guy for this team, and at a decent price, too. I like it.

If the reaction from the Oilers board is any indication it is a great signing... and at that price...

It's so funny to see people on the Oilers board initially talk about how they loved GlenX and how they wanted him to stay. Now that he has come here, he's suddenly overrated and it was Brodziak that made that 4th line work.

The Vandy and GlenCross signings have been confirmed by TSN. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?id=11...opRelated_main

Now that he's with the Flames, I hope to never have to hear him being referred to as "GlenX".

Well, to be perfectly fair, 1mil/yr is a great price for this player. He's a hard worker and has nose for the net, but don't expect him to generate any offense on his own - he's too brutish to do so. So it all depends on who he's paired with. Yes Brodziak did most of the work on a lot of his plays, but Glencross did do a good job getting open and finishing the play. (I still remember the game where he should have had a double hattrick with the amount of open nets he had, but only managed 2 goals - he was so embarrassed in the interview for not getting the trick)

I'm surprised Oilers didn't resign him at this price, his agent was asking for 3mil/yr and it didn't sound like he was willing to come down... He had wicked awesome chemistry with Brodziak. All the top6 forward talk from the oilers camp was probably suffocating his chances of a roster spot.

Don't even bring that up. I'm kinda glad he's gone from the Oilers for that very reason, that was probably my #1 pet peeve on the Oilers message board. Atleast if you guys start it up, I won't be reading it very often :p
