Ok I love Niko but let's not get carried away here. Tyutin's contract was perfect for his services. A lot better than the overpayment and cap mismanagement we made by resigning Rosy for 5 m a year yesterday.
Man I hope we get Orpik now! Please! We lost some sandpaper we had from Fedor and now need some serious toughness back there or were gonna get pushed around.
Eklund just confirmed this deal is done 2 for 2.
Yes, I'd like to sign Oprik as well. That'd be great if Slats pulled that off, I don't know what else you could ask for.
Wow, that's brutal on Columbus' part, not that great on the Rangers front either with Zherdev becoming a RFA after next season but still.
Not that great on the Rangers front? They just got a top 6 forward and another potential 2nd liner for Tyutin and simultaneously got rid of Backman. Not to mention they freed up roughly 3 million in cap space. And Zherdev is an arbitration eligible RFA. Not too worried.
Really nice move by Sather. The Rangers all of a sudden have a legit young top line wingman. Fritsche is a good addition as well.
On what we gave up--Tyutin is a 25 year old d'man with 3+ years of NHL experience--keeping in mind the lockout year. His offense hasn't come around but he is IMO a very solid defender and a good physical player who isn't constantly going to the penalty box. A good skater and a good passer.
Not a fan of Backman at all. 2.3 mil cap hit for him is ridiculous.
The Blue Jackets have traded wingers Nikolai Zherdev and Dan Fritsche to the New York Rangers for defensemen Fedor Tyutin and Christian Backman, The Dispatch has learned.
It has been speculated since the end of the season that the Blue Jackets were attempting to trade Zherdev, who's had a rocky start to his NHL career. He got his career back on track last season, scoring 26 goals and 35 assists in 82 games.
Fritsche, who grew up in the Cleveland suburb of Parma, has been squeezed out this off-season by the Blue Jackets' acquisition of forwards. He had 10 goals and 12 assists in 69 games with the Blue Jackets, ending the season early with a broken hand.
