I wouldn't mind Mara back if he took a bit of a paycut to about $2 mill...use the cap space gained from this deal to bring him back

That is a good call........Mara would be a good fit at 2 million.........it's just weird cause I always thought he was in the Dog House

They need a Steve Montador type.....cheap and hits

No the trade is official. There is no prospect involved. It's Fristche and Zherdev for Tyutin and Backman straight up. Just heard it.

On the other hand the Orpik deal is 5 years 22.5 million. Not 6 years. TSN is wrong. I heard the Penguins announce it on the radio themselves.

I heard Sean Hill thrown around and PLEASE NO. I'd rather Mara than Montador, but Montador>Hill.

Why not, I wouldn't mind.
I'm honestly sorry to see Bäckman go, he got a bad start with the Rangers and screwed up a few times. I'd have liked to see him in blue one more year.

Dawes - Gomez - Zherdev has the potential to be a very dangerous line.

Dawes. Him and Gomer played pretty well together last year.

TSN is reporting 6 years. If 5 years is the case then he is making 4.5 per...

My first instinct was the Zherdev would be a great fit with as a LW on Jagrs line. He would certainly give JJ someone to play with and would compliment JJ and Dubi really well. If JJ bolts Zherdev is a good option as a sniper. He is certainly a bit Kovalevish in with a bit of coasting in his game. But he is really really talented and just put up 61 pts on a bad team -- which is pretty solid. Playing with JJ might be what puts a player like Zherdev over the top. But thats just the feeling I got -- about playing with JJ, he could be a good fit with Gomez too.

And if JJ bolts I personally would match up Zherdev with Drury above Gomez, but thats just me. But I was really impressed by what Drury did with VANEK in Buffalo. CD pretty much earned thoose 49m for Vanek by pushing him on and off the ice; while providing him with allot of support and a finnishing option on the ice. Zherdev is also the type of player Drury needs inorder to really excell offensivly.

I would love Montador. Right handed shot, tough. Had his highest scoring year last year.

How about making a pitch for Doug Murray with 1/2 players from our plethora of middle depth talent up front and in the farm.

Wouldn't a more power forward type of player work better on the left?

Didn't say I wouldn't mind. I would like him back as well. The "great" part of my quote was me being pissed that Pitt re-signed Orpik
