Even though I lost two of my favorite Rangers in one day (Avery not Backman) we improved offensively.

I wonder if this was the "big surprise" and the "something more to come" that were being reported yesterday

Awards:
At the end of the day the Rangers got a guy who with last year's numbers would have been the Rangers leading goal-scorer.

Well, I guess my Tyutin jersey just became outdated or five times cooler, depending on how you look at it. =)

I love Fedor, hate to see him go, but this is a good move. Zherdev isn't a star yet, but after displaying increased efficiency in 07-08 I think we can talk about him as a player whose shown more than just flashes. His talent is unquestionable, and he's moving towards growing into his own and taking a step (at least this is the optimistic way take on him.)

We've been speculating for years that the rangers might one day move some of their assets for a young, top line forward. I'm not yet ready to say that Zherdev is that player, but two years from now we might look back and say that this is the deal that we had been waiting for since the lockout.

I also believe that the salaries in this deal should, more or less, cancel each other out, could someone confirm this?

Hill is a much better player than Montador. I would take him on a low risk one year contract.

Looks like we're losing about $5MM+ and getting only $2.5MM in cap hit back in Zherdev. Fritsche is an unsigned RFA.

Haha likewise. Excited for Zherdev but I'll miss Tyutin a lot. I guess I've got one reason to watch Columbus now though.

Actually, we opened some cap space with this deal. Zherdev is getting 3.25 this year, but his cap hit is only 2.5. Next year he is an RFA. Fritsche is a RFA now, so we would have to sign him, but I can't see him costing that much. No more than 1 mil.

Well, maybe not a power forward, but someone who'll go to the net for the garbage goals.

Here's the list of FA dmen from NHLSCAP @ Hockeybuzz.com:
